I love my mare! During the summer months she is at the mercy of her hormones and whilst she is not nasty any way, she just cannot seem to concentrate for long, can get stressy and generally be a damn fidget. However once she stops having obvious seasons she becomes a different horse, much more relaxed and less argumentitive and allthough it doesn't seem it at the time, all the hard work I put into her during the summer when I feel like I am bashing my head against a brick wall sometimes, suddenly seems to fall into place.

Today I rode her for the first time in about 2 weeks ( allthough she has been lunged a few times during that time) and I was really pleased with the way she went. This will be her second winter with me and I remember feeling the same sense of relief this time last year! So I'm going to make the most of my changed horse and enjoy the peace and quite while it lasts lol

glad she's settling. if she returns to her mareish behavior again in the summer, maybe its worth speaking to a vet, only because i believe you can give them something called regumate (sp!) which does something to the cycle to stop them being so mareish. you'd have to check, cos im not certain, but some horses are on it at the yard where i work.

My girl used to be like that and i tried a few girly supplements. She is now on Oestress and it seems to of settled her all through the summer. I am pretty sure its working but don't want to take the chance of stopping it to find out!!!
