Hi All,

I'm moving to the Grays area of Essex and I've got to find somewhere to put my loan mare.

I've found a couple of posts on here listing some yards which is great but I can't seem to find any way of contacting them and as I'm not currently local to the area I don't really know where to start!

So far I've phoned Hacton Park Corner (name down but no spaces), Harwood Hall (no spaces full stop) and Lilly Putts (no answer). I'm waiting for Essex Rider to come out and see if there's anymore but I'm desperate to get this sorted A.S.A.P.

I'm trying to find numbers for Budges yard (Harold Wood), Strawberry Farm, Woodend Farm, Howards Farm and any others you can think of/recommend in the area.

Thanks guys!

What did you find yards round there were like for grazing? I'm thinking of moving (me) to that sort of area and if I do pony will come to. Pony is arthritic and laminitic so a bit special needs-y really... A colleague offered me a flatshare literally last night so I haven't really though much about livery yet.

I'm afraid I don't know, I haven't been to any yet because I'm still trying to find numbers to contact them but when I find out I can let you know.

I did visit them on my field trip to Essex yards and they seem quite nice - lovely facilities with an indoor, lunge pen, an outdoor and they're building a new one, turnout rather than grazing as they have a lot of laminitics, I think they said the hacking was reasonable. I'm not sure how easy it is to get in to use the facilities as it's a riding school but the girl I talked to said if you're polite and it's winter and raining and there's a lesson in the indoor and you go around in closed order with them they don't mind so you can compromise.

There's French's Farm, Park Farm, Frieze Hall, Felly Farm, all in the South Weald area of Brentwood (accessible from where you are - should be able to google for numbers). Boyles Court, Dark Lane, Brentwood.
Tylers is a huge yard on Nags Head Lane (Harold Wood/Brentwood).
There's a nice yard in Little Warley (down Warley Hall Lane I think), but i can't remember the name for the life of me! I know it's run by a guy called Andrew....

I'm not saying I'd recommend any/all of them, but some may be what you're looking for, and probably worth a look for comparison's sake. PM me if you want more info....kept horses round there for quite a few years so have heard most of the gossip about local yards at some point or another!

Seeing as you're going to be based in Grays - there's also Court Farm Livery, in Aveley.

Don't know the place (just happens to be round the corner to my mum's house) but is a lot nearer to Grays than Brentwood or Hornchurch.

Thinking out loud, I live in Brentwood thought of having to travel to Grays (so vice versa to you) 2x a day would kill me!
Hornchurch is not close to Grays either (unless of course you're passing through to commute to work.

Orsett and Aveley definitely nearer for you.

Just a thought in case youre not too familiar with the area!

Thanks people.

Twiglet if you could PM me with any that you would avoid I would be very greatful, I'm after a fairly relaxed, quiet place with no bitching where I'm free to do my own thing but everyone chips in when needed. When I did a search on here Tylers didn't seem to have a good reputation.

City Mare I actually work in the Brentwood/Harold Wood area and am moving to Chafford Hundred rather than into Grays itself so anywhere between the two would be perfect, I am keeping an eye out for places in Orsett too.

Aw, I used to live in Chafford a few years ago!

If you're working in Brentwood (or near to) that Brentwood would be perfect for stabling. And I guess you'd be driving through Aveley/Upminster on the way to work (if you go via "the lanes") so that would work.

By the way, the Strawberry Farm does have a vacancy sign up, but no number? If you're still considering the place it's easy enough for me to stop by and ask if you need to.

Thanks City Mare, that's very kind of you. I have a couple a places to look at at the weekend now that sound perfect but if they turn out to be unsuitable I might take you up on the offer.
