Beware that there has been a spat of thefts in this area over the few weeks. One around 6 weeks ago was posted about on here, there were two in the Caerphilly area on the weekend, one in Rhiwbina around the same time and a trailer was taken from a yard, not far from the main house! It was parked down a lane and around the corner on a trailer parking area which is quite difficult to drive around, so they knew exactly what they were doing. The amount of stuff taken has varied from next to nothing to everything not nailed down, including rugs off horses's backs, so don't leave anything of value lying around.

They tried to take a flat bed trailer at 10.30pm but YO heard them and gave chase. He got the number plate but who knows if it's real...

hiya,
i posted about the break-in i had on this forum, since then i have 2 more seperate incidents of rugs being taken, some of these rugs are postcoded. So i've now had about 20 rugs nicked!

I've also heard that a racing yard in cowbridge? area has also been done over.

thanks for the warning about strangles on the wenault!

if it's o.k, can you put the number plate you got down?

Im not in Wales but please be careful all you horse owners as I recieved a very upsetting email yesterday that people are theiving horses and transporting them to Ireland for a steal to order they are doing this from Holyhead port, apparently this port does NOT check if horses have passports! When horses reach Ireland if the theives find a microchip with the scanner they are dumped. Please please please take extra procaution, this is awful, just try and padlock fields and any access at all. Tack can be replaced but your beloved horses cant.

I couldn't remember who it was so thanks for that. I'm sorry to hear about your further problems with rugs being stolen - the b*st*rds, a plague o' both their houses!

I hadn't heard about the yard in Cowbridge - it wasn't Tim Vaughen's, was it? Our hunt has connection to him so I hope not

I haven't got the number plate at the moment but I will try and get it for you.

Thanks Equestrian92 - I think that story was originally posted on here by a friend of a girl who's horse that happened to. Touch wood, they only seem to be nicking stuff which, though annoying, is replacable. I pray to the gods that it stays that way

sorry i'm not sure who it is, the ladies who work in HFS (Bridgend) told me about it.

i also heard off my hairdresser, that apparently some horses were stolen from the wenault? i've been trying to find out more.

that would be great if you can get a number plate and what sort of car, really appreciate it. Good on your YO, are the police doing anything?

As in Wenallt Farm? No, I'm 100% positive there haven't been any stolen from there (I know people on the yard) but that's where the trailer went from.

I'll ask him when I see him but it may not be for a few days.

I heard about steal to order ages ago and have been on my guard. I didI read that when the thieves get to Holyhead if they scan and find a chip then the horse is dumped. I think all horses are scanned on arrival in Ireland. I dont understand why the ports cant have some police permanantly stationed there, then the thieves could be caught.

Update on the car – YO chased them for ages but had to stop and reverse when they went down a lane, stopped and got out of their car. They started coming towards him and as he was on his own & unsure of what weapons they had, he reversed away. They threw a hammer at his Landy but there wasn’t much damage!

They were driving a stolen Shogun with plates stolen off a transit van and they burnt it, so there was no way of finding out who they were from that
