bonsoir...

so, when i bring raff back into work, he's going to have an MOT. get his teeth/back done and also get a saddle that fits.

i'm also planning on finding him a bit that works for him. cos his current one doesn't... but... do i just try lots on him and see which one he goes best in? or is there someone who can look in his mouth and say 'oh yes, a X bit would fit that mouth shape'?

apologies for the numpty questions, i'm just getting nervous about bringing him back into work... and trying to eliminate every single risk/cause of misbehaviour (not that he has EVER given me reason to think he'll misbehave, i'm just a nervous wreck...!).

thankies.
cherry bakewell (minus the minging cherry on the top) for replies or ideas xxx

My pony is really fussy about bits and I asked my EDT to have a look at the conformation of his mouth - he confirmed that there was good reason for Murphy to be happiest in the bit he seemed to like best.

It's defo worth asking your EDT, they might not be able to fit a bit but they should be able to look at mouth conformation and give you some opinions.

thank you!
i suspect he has a big fat tongue and low mouth... so the rubber single joint snaffle he came with isn't a good bit to continue with...
i'll see what EDT says. i didn't want to look like too much of a pleb asking her and her saying "what? bits? me? no"

xx

A good EDT will be able to advise but I do know of one who told someone that a bit fitted her pony when it is obviously too short and actually rubs his mouth. so you have to use your own commonsense as well

There are plenty of people who will come out and 'bit' your horse, or you can call up individual bit companies and see what they recommend - though they'll probably only recommend their own bits... xP
I know Hilary Vernon does clinics and also will come out and try bits on your horse, and some other people whose names I can't remember off the top of my head...
But your EDT should at least give you somewhere to start by considering his mouth conformation
