Someone at some point has decided to take apart most of Mossburn's bridles and switch some parts around and I have to attempt to sort them all out tomorrow

Buckles to the outside, and hook studs to the inside, right?
We only have hook studs but most of them atm are to the outside.

But anyway, buckles to the outside for comfort and not hurting the horse, but is there any reason other than that it looks better, that hook studs go to the inside?

If you put the hooks/billets to the outside the buckles that hold the cheek pieces will be on the inside, the bridle will be like inside out, why do you want to put them on the outside ? just put the bridles back to how they were ?!? buckles on outside, billets on inside, you should be able to match up each bridle if you lay all the parts out

Ah yes, of course :o

I don't want to have them outside, I'll fix the wrong ones, I was just wondering! :)

Well, yes that should work in theory except we have a spare tack parts draw and I am hoping she didn't put things in there or it will take ages to find them again :D

Buckles were once used just for work bridles - heavier leather and stronger buckles.

Billets (hooks) are on the inside because they give a nice smooth look to the bridle - show bridles will generally have billets and fine stainless steel half buckles elsewhere - these half buckles are nowhere near as strong as a full buckle.

Another thing to remember - especially if you like to show is that the rein with the buckle in the centre is always attached to the nearside bit ring.

On a double the slip head does up on the off side - to even out all the buckles.

The curb rein is stitched at its centre and the rein sewn under the join at the centre goes on the nearside bit ring.

I feel for you ! my brain struggles to see the right way to put things together even if Its me who has taken them apart !!!! took me ages the first few times I took bridle totally apart to clean to put it back together ! if in doubt when you have put it all back together ask a knowledgable friend to take a look or look up some pictures on the internet !

Hate to say it but is it something to do with the female brain !
