Numpty question about shavings

Approximately how many big bales to make a nice big bed in a 12'x12' stable? Been a long time since I did it and got no idea how many bales to order...

Deep littering or just a normal bed?

I use about 8 to start a deep litter bed and then add one a week...

Not sure on a normal bed though.

I use about 8 - 9 for a normal bed but I have massive stables. We then use 1 - 2 per week.

I used 5 for a "normal" bed in our 12 x 12 stable, it looked absolutely fine, almost a bit too deep really. I probably added 3 bales in the first week, just as it stopped being so fluffy and new and started to settle down a bit. Normally I do 2 bales a week to keep it topped up.

I'd ditto 5, i order 10 to start of a 12x12 and stopped at 5 and even then is was mahoosive

I have rubber mats and shavings and started with 6 bales which was a decent bed with bankings

start with 5 or 6 a week later add two to bulk it out then a week later add one and so on but all depends on how clean your horse is really!
