As the question says really, I feel a little silly for asking but would like to know why a filly slip is just that and not for colts? I have a colt foal (3 months old) and am trying to get a headcollar suitable to take him to the futurity in, can I find one that fits him perfectly???!!! No, all either too big or too small!! But I was given a filly slip and lead which will fit perfectly, can I use this? or will I be laughed at!!!!
Different thing: a foal slip is for any foal, see link for what I refer to when talking about filly slip (scroll down to bottom of page) http://www.frogpool.com/prodcat-59.html
I am grasping at straws but could it be to do with the fact you cant put a bit on it? i think ( i am anything but a showing expert ) colts over 2 have to be shown bitted whereas fillys dont?
Just a thought
No idea why it's called a filly slip but I wish I'd known that's what they were called a week ago, I've been searching like mad to get one. I don't imagine it is just for fillies though, I just knew I didn't want the foal "slip" but the one that has a browband, no idea what it was called though. The picture in your link is exactly what I'm looking for so thanks for that
Don't know why they are called filly slips. We bought our showing halters from our saddlers for £7 for our colt and filly and they are just like posh headcollars for foals. They sell similar ones on e bay for about the same price.
