Because of all this lovely weather we are having I have been down the fields pampering the horses and decided to pull our big chestnut mare's mane to tidy it up, her nephew ate a bit so I figured if I pulled it all the the eaten bit's length it would look good, and it does thank god!

However as she had quite a long, thick mane before it uncovered 3 roundish lumps on her withers. We have only owned her since May, she has been ridden a small handful of times due to me having an operation and then becoming pregnant, and she if anything is a little overweight and flat backed so it's not although she had visible spine processes. I am a bit worried, will phone the vet on Monday as she is comfortable and not lame in the field but don't want her ridden until it's been checked out, I wondered if anyone had experienced this before?

I wondered if it could have previously been caused by an ill fitting saddle or rug/saddle pad pulling down on her withers? If so, does anyone have any idea what these lumps could be? She doesn't mind if I poke or prod them, and they feel hard, like bone.

Fly bites? Cysts? Fistulous withers?

I would have the vet too :p

ETS could be a Granuloma type thing if there has been injury or pressure there? and I was kind of teasing about fistulous withers :p

I have no idea... yes vet is on speed dial for Monday, she's 100% not bothered by it at the moment and she's not being ridden otherwise I would get them out now! Thing is, I honestly have no idea if they are new, or if they've been there for a while as they were disguised by her mane and she has been a good girl on the odd occasion I have ridden, so there's been no real cause for concern but now I'm worried she was just being an angel and putting up with something hurting. :(
