Numpty question re dressage girth - sorry!

Further to my post the other day about synthetic dressage saddles, I have just ordered a Wintec Isabell, now I need to order a girth and I have no idea what size I will need! He has a 50" on a normal saddle, so any ideas anyone? Sorry for the dumb question.

You have way more play with a dressage girth than you do with a normal girth. Generally you're meant to take 20" off your normal girth lenght, but it really depends on the saddle you were using and the dressage saddle you've got.

I'd go for a 30", since slightly longer is better than too short (so the buckles aren't under the elbows). Why not get a cheaper throwogood one now (they're good!) and later you could buy a posh leather one.

I would suggest you go for the matching Wintec equisuede Dressage girth as it has the 'flap retaining' strap keeper under the centre of it to thread through the 'flap strap'. If this strap is not securely fitted through a keeper (most other dressage girths dont have them) then it tends to slip off the girth which then becomes tight around the most sensitive area of the belly (near the floating rib) which in effect can cause the horse to buck (thus the flap retaining strap on an 'Isabell' is also known as a bucking strap!!!!) some people cut them off but it will reduce its value if you want to sell it at any point.
