Numpty trailer question - do you carry mucking out stuff to shows?

I'm new to having a trailer and taking my boy to shows so I'm on a bit of a learning curve! Understandably, most show centres prefer not to have to clear a load of other horses' crap from their fields / car parks and ask that you don't leave droppings or hay behind.

Soo...do you tend to take a skip with you when you travel? If so, where do you keep it? I don't fancy carrying it in my car (my OH won't be impressed with any smell left behind!) but I'm concerned that it would move around if I put it in the trailer and worry my horse, or bang against the walls if I tie it up!

Sorry for the numpty question :D

Yes I take a scoop type thing with me and tie it to the inside front of the trailer, most places we go to have a muck heap, If not chuck it under a bush :)

Thanks guys! I'll keep it in the trailer then and tie it up just in case. I'd hope not to be driving fast enough to dislodge it anyway - if I did then I'd be seriously concerned about the drive my horse is getting ;)

I don't. I use hemp bedding in the lorry and then I can removed dehydrated dumplings by hand on return to the yard. I will kick poo into a bucket if I'm at a showground without equipment, but most have a barrow standing somewhere.

I take a tubtrug and a short handled shovel. It's enough to take the worst out of their way so that the floor isn't slippery. I don't use any bedding on the floor of the trailer as I feel it actually makes it slippery which is the opposite to what it's supposed to achieve.

Take a big tubtrug and yes as somebody said, tie it safely in the other side of the trailer on the way home.

We have a box and travel with bedding under the hind legs to absorb any mess, but still skip the box out to save horse getting filthy standing in it. Rarely tie our horses up outside as they're often not ones you can trust to stay where they're put ;)

Bungee cords are ideal for securing stuff in your trailer....we used to take a complete mucking out kit and a barrow in the spare compartment of the lorry, all secured with bungees! they're also great for making sure rugs stay on the rug racks !

We always carry a poo picker and old feed sack to put it in. I saw a really handy bracket at the tack shop this week to store the poo picker so will be getting one of those for the trailer.

Yep, we have a small sized scooper and scraper, and put the muck into an old plastic feed bag, the big chaff ones are the best to get the scoop into it, so you don't drop it all out onto your feet again...

:D

I have a small sized rake and bucket, which was a brilliant garden bucket I bought from lakeland years ago, but unfortunately they don't make them anymore. It has a flat side, so can just rake or even use foot to put droppings in.

If you have a horse in each stall you could fix the bucket in the front of the trailer, maybe in a bag? I scrape out the worst from the trailer before loadingand travelling home.
