Hi all,

Anyone tried Nupafeed Calmer.

It was suggested to me today as my horse get anxious in traffic. Tried supplements several years ago with him with no effect (although not magnesium based) so gave up trying the supplement route.

Thank you for any comments.

PS Horse is a Welsh Cob is that makes any difference.

Yup. Tried it on our Hair Gang (DW, NF, cobs, IDxTB). They were much more settled

Have used it and in my experience didn't make that much difference. Tbh it's a magnesium supplement so unless the horse in question's magnesium levels are a little up or down, I don't think it has a massive effect.

Yep used it (I have WC too, crossed with WB)
The people are lovely to talk to.

Basically, it's quite pricey but worth it if you DO need it. I say do because it only and only works if your horse is lacking in magnesium.

Also the thing about other Magnesium based supplements is they are not supposed to be as 'good' as nupafeed because this is chelated magnesium or something which stays in the system longer as opossed to getting flushed out quicker like the powder forms. So you rop the horse up with enough Mag to get the balance right and then continue to feed enough to keep it there once you have done the initial loading dose.

I would try one of their boosters or one off syringe type calmers and then test him on the hack, because if that doesn't work than don't waste your money putting him on the loading dose and feeding it all the time.

Didn't work with my mare, so she obviously wasn't lacking in it, you can always try bluechip or something which is liquid and cheaper first too.

Yes - have tried it and it's brilliant. Only thing is, if you have a very stressy horse which uses a lot of magnesium in its muscle function, then it can take a lot of nupafeed to fill up the deficiency before it can have a calming effect.

Speaking to the nupafeed people, they supply a lot of racehorse yards (very stressy young TBs) and it can take 6 weeks for it to kick in for some horses. Most people can't afford/aren't prepared to wait that long for the effect!

Used it last year on a WB show horse - it worked so well, he fell asleep and refused to hack down the drive! I had to wait for it to wear off for 24 hours before I could school him

I tried virtually every other calmer on the market on him, so I know what worked.
