I've just seen this is the main ingredient in my hard feed - what exactly does this mean and should I be paying a small fortune for it?!!

Try looking on the Sundown Products website, they produce tonnes of it. It is basically pelleted straw but in compound it is probably used as the 'base' for all the other ingedients to bind to to form the pellet.

Nutritionally improved straw is usually straw that has been chopped and treated with something to make the fibre more easily digestible. It is a very inexpensive process and makes a reasonable difference to the value of the straw in the diet.

I know cob is slightly overweight so I have bought this as a low energy feed, but STRAW??? At £12 a bag???? I was really happy with the feed until I read the ingredients, is this normal in low energy feeds?

Ok thanks for that info jenhunt, I feed TopSpec anyway so I will just change the feed once I've used it up. She is happy to eat it but I'm not so hapy with the price per bag now I know what's in it!
