I was talking with somebody at the yard last week about horse weight, unreliability of weigh tapes, and working out feed rations, and we both agreed it would be very interesting to be able to get the horses weighed properly. Having mentioned it to others on the yard, there are a number of us who would be interested.

I am sure I can remember hearing that one of the big feed companies will do a yard visit with a portable weighbridge, and then discuss feeding regimes. Has anybody had one of these visits? If so, which feed company was it, how much did it cost and was it worth while?

(None of us have transport, so taking the horses to local weighbridge isn't an ideal option.)

When my vets organised a Weight Clinic it was a nutritionist from Spillers that came out with the weighbridge. I don't know the details of numbers, cost etc... but she was very helpful, to the point that the clients that came seem to have recommended her to friends and we're doing another now! Definitley worthwhile if you can get enough people together.

Dengie also offer this service - I am sure the others will too... you need a minimum number of people (5 or 10) and will have to listen to a talk on correct feeding which can be a great way of getting some good advice. Write down any questions you can think of before they arrived :)
