Lovely lovely lovely. Make sure your horse is fit as there are some big old hills there, but IMO it is a perfect first time Novice course. Also IMO the PN was far more technical than the novice there last year, and was v big - it was my first PN and I now know there are kinder places to go first time out at the level!
The intro looked nice, and was not up to height IMO. However at all levels the first water caused problems if you weren't positive into it. Hills at all levels as it is undulating parkland and IIRC everyone had to go up a big hill to a jump on the top then back down the other side.
Was just slightly terrified by the brush hedge at 3 in the PN which came roughly to my shoulder (I'm 5') and then the double of curved skinny brushes later in the course! (U-shaped but you came into them from the bottom not through the arms of the u so more difficult). I suspect having done a lot more PNs this year it will look far less terrifying!
Bizzarely, although I can visualise the dressage arenas and warmup (loads of space and nice and flat), and the lorry park and the XC, I can't recall the SJ at all! I don't remember it being horrid though, and SJ terrified me then, so I am sure it was fine. Think I had 3 down in the PN which is our usual score, so it can't have been that hard!
good good. Sounds a bit like us... a couple of years ago I hated SJ with a passion and dreaded it at every event... as a result we having 2 or 3 down was the norm.
Have grown to love it now though. Just wish my horse was a bit more of a 'natural' at it, he makes it pretty hard work !
Yes, done one intro and two PNs (sapey, broadway and Stockland lovell), but about to start a run of 4 over 4 weekends: Gt Tew, Longleat, Salperton and then Nutwell Court before horse has two month break from eventing!
I am a bad person. You'll be fine, you've been PN before, it's not as tough as SLM PN, just big! As long as you ride it, you will be fine!! I just wouldn't recommend it as a first time PN, there are others kinder I think.
I am not sure you even told me you were entering!
I am putting off colouring in maps, but now I feel guilty so will go and do them....
Actually I hadn't one of my list of things to do today though as I want to do it. Will make sure I put PN sunday so I can see you all.
What's class is Lec doing? Is she sunday as well?
Actually just looked at work diary it will have to be Sunday.
Yes am Sunday - as work on Saturdays. I am going to attempt to do Novice again. Am sure it is doomed but worth trying!
Nutwell is lovely course I have done it on two of my horses now and both did it as their first PN and both were fine. Rodney the dimwit managed to get round so am sure you will be fine! The corner was the nastiest fence IMO and that had an alternative (which of course I failed to take gaining a lovely 20pens)
Chocolate is going in the Novice, and Flynnagan the Intro, Jonty was entered but the b***s lame again..It may be the tendon hasn't fully healed so we shall de-register her and turn her away again..
Flyn is the lovely chesnut we bought for a song and who has been hanging round here for ages. P likes him so keeps making excuses not to sell him, and he did a few HT last year. He isn't fond of water but seems ok at everything else, so he will start his eventing career at Nutwell where there is s trot through water.. (I seem to also remember a last jump with a water tray on top with plastic ducks swimming in it)
It isn't hilly in my opinion (is it very flat where you live ?) It's parkland type going with some undulations not hills! (come to where we live, most roads are really steep)
The Sj is very near the parking area, has hedges on two sides and is flat.
Dressage is in the opposite corner with views of the sea, takes some horses by surprise to start with.
It's actually our nearest event, so we should be there both days, as although we can travel these two together, with Flynn being an ex stallion it can cause face pulling etc between them. Much easier on different days.
Should be a real H and H gathering by the sound of it..
yeah and me dressage 12.30, sj 15.22, and XC 16.08 thank goodness as I think it's going to take min 3.5 hours to get there for me! What time are you on?
CCJ has just told me there is one big hill, (I am afraid I didn't walk the course so should have shut up!) and that compared to Moreton it's hillier, so ignore me...
im there as well!! our 1st run back down at novice for a while so looking forward to it!! we will have to do a post nearer the time so we can have a little get together!
I did wonder whether you were finally losing it from all the stress (big hill)
..... I also loved Nutwell Court, but too close to Shipton Moyne for us. Mind you the rate I'm not getting organised I'll be lucky to get to Aldon in October
