Looking for a bit of advice please.

I have had my saddle checked today and the saddler has made me a quarter riser pad for the back of my saddle as it was sitting a bit low.

She suggested i tried a nuumed numnah, but after going on the website i have no idea which one to go for as they are quite pricey.

My horse is a 18 years old TB who has been out of work for 4 years and lacks top line. I think i am going to need a semi- thick numnah (but not poly pad thick!) but i'm not sure whether i'll need extra padding over her top line/back. I have a Shires half pad but that is too thick and bulky under her saddle.

What are your views on the Nuumeds? Are they as good as they make out? Are they easy to clean/wash and how do you wash yours?

Many Thanks :)

I'm not sure which one you want as I am no expert but I have a few Nuumeds and they are great. I just chuck it in the machine, either line dry or tumble if I'm short on time. They come up like new each time. I have/did have a half fluffy one as well but I can't find it anywhere :O(

They are worth the money. I have a full one, hi-wither. You don't HAVE to wash it although I know some who do on a wool wash but I just brush mine with a plastic curry comb and always fluffs up beautifully after a few rides.

i LOVE nuumed numnahs! and i often recommend them.

if your saddle fitter has recommended you get one, ask them which one. because it might be that they think you need a full one (for example) in which case a half one won't be as padded (or vice versa)

ps get a full size one!

I would be rather concerned about a saddler who lifted the back of the saddle as it was sitting too low. A saddle that tips backwards is normally too narrow so it is lifted at the front. By lifting the back of your saddle it is likely to cause the saddle to bridge causing bressure at the front and back. If the saddle is too narrow putting anything underneath it will cause it to be far too tight. If your horse lacks topline the saddle should actually be fitted too wide, but to the correct shape and fitted with a Prolite pad underneeth it. That will mimic the shape of your horse but wider, so will allow space for the muscles to expand and contract and muscle up. If your horse has a saddle that is topo narrow and is padded up at the back it will prevent it working correctly and will actually increase muscle wasteage.

Nuumed are great easpecially for high wither - I always get them half lined with wool under the saddle area. The wash up fine and last for ages - use normal washing powder and occasionally use one of those pets combs - like a spikey metal brush but not all the time as pulls the wool out. I have a Large on a 17.5 inch saddle.

Great numnahs and saddle cloths. You would need a large for your saddle and the hi-wither ones are really good whether your horse has high withers or not as it tucks into the gullet of your saddle really well. Nuumed do their own NuWash to wash them with, costs about £4.95 and will last forever. Its good for washing coats in too as its soap based and wont strip the waterproofing out.
