I'm after a little advice if you'd be so kind.

When using oat straw chaff as a hay replacer should I dampen it or just feed dry straight from the bag?

Thank you in advance.

I feed mine dry, it's best to introduce gradually and be prepared that your horse/pony may not be too keen initially!!

When introducing mine to Top Chop Zero he went up and sniffed it and then kicked the bucket across the field!!

He now eats it very happily so persevere. Mine is on restricted grazing and he has a bucket daily to pick at as and when he wishes.

Makes me feel less mean xx

Thank you - I doubt it will meet a favourable reception, but you never know.

As you suggest I'll start with a little, just so he learns to nibble rather than potentially dive into a large bucketful! The fact he is also on restricted grazing may help him warm to the idea! :)

I think that all the "low calorie" chaffs are mostly oat straw, but they are well chopped up of course. As with everything, introduce slowly.
