Hi looking for some advise, I've been to view a lead rein pony who is everything we're looking for but is obese, he's showing no signs of laminitis and feet are great condition, We have the facilities to limit grazing and sort the weight issue but we're worried about the problems it could of already caused, we're not having him vetted as he's not a vast amount of money, would this put u off buying? Thankyou

If he is perfect it would not put me off but remember he may change once he loses weight and becomes more fit and healthy, if you can cope with the weight issue itself it is at least the right time of year to get it off, will your child cope with a potentially more forward going pony, if you think they will then go for it.
Not every obese pony will get laminitis, if this one has managed to avoid it so far you have every chance of sorting it out with no ill effects long term.

No it would not put me off as long as I had the facilities and time to manage him and give him a nice life .
My mum used to walk our first pony who arrived huge with the dogs every day to up his exercise levels.
You are also buying at a good time to address the issue, a winter on restricted rations ( I would consider chopped straw instead of hay ) will make huge inroads into the issue .
The only issue that might just nag my mind is might he not be so perfect at his job when he's slim and fit .

I don't think he's a pony who would change, we took him out yesterday and we had crazy drivers, a horse gallop past up on a bridle way because she couldn't stop in time, savage dogs around his legs and he didn't bat an eye, he's big enough for a small adult aswell so my friend could ride him properly aswell, it was the weight a was worried about more so

It's good that you have a way to get him ridden by a small adult that will make the diet much easier , if you have a horse you can also the pony leading from a ridden horse .
