If you read my thread about the difficult rehab horse, thanks for sticking with me. That one is progressing really well now.
So meanwhile... in order to have another one in to ride properly I brought another horse in from the winter fields. This one had locking stifles as a youngster aged 2-3, and at age 6 had surgery to correct OCD in his stifles. That seemed to go well and last winter he hunted, hacked, etc, did a bit of dressage over the summer. Now we seem to be back to where we were before the surgery two years ago... short stride behind, movement more side to side than forward and under, and horribly uncomfortable bunny-hop canter, feeling almost as though he is broken in the middle. His made to measure saddle was rechecked for fit recently; no behaviour issues; no evidence of back pain; he's up to date with dentist, great mouth, good feet. I am sure it is the stifles again.
He's no longer insured, so vet costs are a factor, but the vet will be coming to Rehab Horse next week and I will ask him to do a full workup on this one as well.
Please tell me about any experiences you've had with OCD in the stifles and any recurrent issues post-surgery, onset of arthritis, or anything else that might help me to understand why this horse feels worse again. He is such a gem but I really need to decide what to do with him if things are going to deteriorate further.
Thanks for reading
