My boy has a blocked tear duct. we have tried treating it with 2 different types of antibiotic eye drops, neither of which worked so he then had his tear duct flushed which seemed to have worked for a few days but now the gunk is back so the tear duct has obviously become blocked again, fairly quickly too.

Had vet back out today who has decided to fit an ocular lavage system next week. ive read up about them online (here: http://www.eyevet.ie/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/ocular_lavage_systems1.pdf) but was just after any personal experiences and anything else i should know? things like wether i can ride him with it in, how to ensure he wont get it caught on things etc.

Thanks in advance

I had a pony come in with one fitted, we made sure there was nothing he could catch it on in the stable, fitted a grill on the door so he could not rub against the frame and remove it but generally it was no problem, made giving the drops so easy did not seem to bother him, it did come out about a day earlier than it was meant to but had done its job by then so was removed. It was fixed along the mane so fairly secure, the pony here was not ridden anyway and was on box rest as he had lost the sight in his eye, the lavage was to try and save the eye, which it did.
