My friend's horse has developed a boney swelling on one of its front legs. It's round the back of the fetlock where the sesamoids are. There is no swelling, no heat, no pain and the horse does not seem lame. It seems to hve come up overnight and she's not sure what has caused it!

Any ideas?

Sounds like the wrong place for splint , windgall maybe if its round the fetlock but I thought they were soft not bony in early stages.

My horse has somthing like you describe- it was hard and I was convinced it was bony but it was scanned and it turned out to be a haematoma. This was about 7 years ago and it still has it today but hasn't caused any problems touch wood just a cosmetic thing. Hope this helps.
