Hi, My 6 year old daughter has a lovely striking Dun section A that ive entered into a unaffiliated odd coloured class she usually does m&ms and lead rein but one class is at 9 and the other is at 4 so thought id do this rather than him be stood around for hours.
I havnt seen any of these odd coloured classes before or heard of them.
Any advice or just to let me know how they run would be greatly appreiciated.
Many Thanks

Hi sorry to hijack your post but my query is much the same.
I have a tri coloured gelding, no specific breed, I think he's the best
and would love to show him just for fun, are there any fun classes and
being more mature would I look silly, my OH thinks his scars from being
driven might go against him, (from his past) what do you think

Hi, iv just sent my entry for one of these classes at the new barn show in sept for my roan :) Im actually really looking forward to it as its the first one iv seen. As far as i know they run pretty much the same as most classes do, and (im not 100% sure so dont quote me on this butt) i dont think the judge actually takes anything to do with colour into account when judgeing.
Could I ask what show this is at? Its just i like the idea of going in these classes but have only seen them at new barn riding club :)

I did a little local show at the weekend that ran a class that included normal coloureds plus roans, spotted etc. It ran as a normal coloured class. It was inhand so i'm not sure about lead rein but i'd ring the organisers and ask if it was ok. I'm sure it will be fine though.

The judge did say she found it difficult to judge the different colours together so i guess she was supposed to take the actual colouring into account although i doubt she knew the correct colouring for a bay roan as all she said to me was that she'd like to take my boy home, didn't get placed though!

Any horse or pony can enter an odd coloured class as long as they are "odd coloured" ie spotted, palomino, dun, roan (not piebald or skewbald as these would go in the coloured class).

Breed is irrelevant as entry to the class is by colour only, so you will find horses and ponies of all shapes/sizes, etc.

It's much like any other showing class - walk, trot, canter on the right rein, change of rein in trot, canter and then line up and individual shows showing walk, trot, canter on each rein.

Horses and ponies are essentially judged the same as the coloured class, ie not on their colour but overall conformation, way of going although you may find particular judges tend to favour particular colours or a particular type of horse/pony.

Thankyou all who commented, i must have down something right we came 2nd out of about 15 so preety chuffed espeacially considering she wwas on a LR and all the rest were adults, the judge was lovely and said she would have placed us first but he just needs to carry his head better, which were working on he just knows he can poke his nose when my little girl is on as when i lunge/long rein he goes beautifull, but hes only 6 so that will come with time.
Thanks again.:):):):D:D
