hi, my horse had problems over the last 9 months with both front coffin joints in front legs and his sacroiliac. the coffin joints r now great but the sacroiliac is not although the muscle spasm is much better. he has had shockwave, steroids, massage rugs and regular physio.
i have noticed that in the last 10 days though that he is standing on one hind leg with his fetlock knuckled forward (his pastern upright). it is not hot or swollen or painful to touch.
the vet is looking at him in 10 days (he can not sooner as horse had a reaction to steroids injected and we need to leave back t settle down again)
i was just wondering what the knuckling over could be a symptom of - he only does it when standing still as if he is trying to relieve pressure.
thanks in advance

Mine does this, in my mare's case she has bad arthritis in her hock. If it goes on too long their tendons can contract. I've taken my mares shoes off now and have not ridden for a couple of months. She seems to be coming sound and now rests her leg in the normal way. Unfortunately we are on the insurance juggernaut, vet wants to do bone scan and possible surgery which I do not want to do hence trying without shoes and field rest as she has already had 3 hock injections and Tildren which haven't worked (she has grown bone spurs within three months).

My mare did this knuckling at the fetlock before she was obviously lame, indeed I queried it with the vet over a year before she presented with overt symptoms. Vet did full trot ups and flexion tests which she passed at the time but she was obviously uncomfortable in that leg and the knuckling was only in that leg.

Hope you get some answers.
