I've a Derby house and a shires Trojan rug for my cob. Both are now past their best. Both rugs have large necks. When they are fastened they are gappy round the neck edging resulting in rain getting in and wetting his shoulders. He has big shoulders and rugs can rub. So he needs a rug suitable for big shoulders but thinish neck. Can anyone recommend a make?

I have had several big Belgian Warmblood horses and horseware rugs fit them a treat. The only Derby horse rugs I have had are really big in the shoulder- my horse has massive shoulders so goodness knows what they should have fitted!

You can get a dart put in the neck on either slide to take some of the slack up. It is a very common problem with rugs, too big round the necks when all the rest fits and fits well.
I did many round yards on site with my industrial sewing machine I took with me.
You don't need to take it up much, as say 1" dart is folded 3 times so 3" in total on each side.
Ask a saddler to do it for you, just mark it with chalk and they can run it through their machine, Oz (Saddler)
