We took the ponies on holiday last week, and while out hacking on a very old drovers way, in the pouring rain, I spotted and picked up an old beer bottle. It turns out to be from about 1900 and is from a brewery that was in Bridgwater from 1885 until 1962.

Out for the first time at home yesterday, I spotted something 'odd' on the track through some local woods. I managed to steer Harry so that he did not stand on it. I jumped off and ran back and found a bat! Poor little thing was on the path so I picked it up. It was alive, but cold, so I warmed it in my hands and put it on a branch in the sunshine to warm up further. I googled it when I got home, and it appeared to be a long eared bat, so not rare, but it's the first time I've ever had a bat in my hand.

So, what weird things have you found? And I mean things, not weird people, there are plenty of those about!

I found a wallet full of cards once that had been stolen and thrown out of a car window.

I also found a couple having a lot of horizontal fun once, and only just managed to spook round them at a canter. Honestly; who shags in the middle of a bridleway?!

I found a baby weasel in the middle of the road and a Swiss army pen knife in the middle of a bridle-way, oh, and a sofa abandoned on the side of the road with an old couple sitting on it as though it was a park bench :D

The hunt....

Insanely large horse shoe trapped in about 8" mud on take off of a hunt fence....measured it at 11" across I think it was! How big was the horse that wore that!!!?

Found a a homemade tree house and 'village' type camp someone had obviously put a lot of time into making in the middle of some woods! Had a little wooden hut, fire area, path made of stones around the area linking everything,a tree house and what looked like a homemade 'toilet' space too. All made by hand and had some considerable workmanship gone into making it!
Never stuck around to see who actually made it, though it always looked 'lived in' everytime we were brave enough to venture to that part of the woods :S Made some fast gallops out of there though everytime we heard a noise! Lmao. Some wooden 'jump' type things did appear though on the track....which was sort of cool, in a creepy way!

Other than that can't really think of a lot else at the minute :s I'm sure there are more, but my brain is dead and need sleeeeeeeeeeeeep. Fun rides are knackering!!!

Shaggers don't count, they are neither odd or that unusual.

Love the sofa :D

Someone did a little fly tipping :)mad:) in a little copse we ride through. There was a cottage suit type chair and a telly, amongst other stuff. I could not resist setting them up so that it appeared the chair was positioned for someone to sit in it and watch the telly.

LOL. XD Photo opportunity!

I think we should make a thread on PG especially for the sole purpose of taking photos of the most randomest/oddest things we find out hacking to share and see who comes up tops! :p

The ferret is my favourite so far.

Great idea Binky: I've got a picture of the bat, but I have no idea how to get it from my OH's phone to my computer.

A couple of years ago whilst hacking from my old yard I found a bottle opener with a wooden handle in the shape of err...shall we say an erect male member. The worrying thing was that it had bite marks on the end!

I forgot one!

Hacking through some fields I found a sheep with one of the supplement tubs stuck on its head. I took pity on it and jumped off the horse to help, unfortunately the horse wasn't too impressed with the headless-sheep-monster so I had him jigging at the very end of his reins.

Of course, sheep wasn't actually stuck, it looked like someone had carefully placed the tub on its head! I lifted it off and the sheep just wandered off.. stupid animals!

I have also stopped to help a lambing sheep (have done some lambing before don't worry) which provided great entertainment for a passing group of American tourists.

I have also had a squirrel fall out of a tree and land on me out hacking, it scurried down the horse's leg and disappeared pretty quickly

I must attract odd things!

If you're on o2, then you can bluebook it for free by sending it as a text :)

Sorted! Spoke to No1 son, who is a web site designer. He uttered some sort of techno babble (I nod and pretend to understand...but don't) and will sort it out tomorrow when he gets home from work.

A streaker!! He seemed mightly impressed with his ding-dong as he ran down the bridlepath and passed us with a big smile on his face, that was until my friend yelled out 'if you think that's big have a look at my horses'!!!! His smile seemed to dissipate!! hahaha!!!

Another one! This reminded me of the time I was hacking on Weymouth beach (in January). I could see a couple of blokes in swimming, thought they were mad! They they came running out the water towards me - completely starkers! Another bloke then appeared with a camera and asked if they could have their picture taken with them; I guessed it was a rugby club dare or suchlike. :)
