Put Arch in the trailer ready to go yesterday and as soon as I went to pull off he kept ramming himself against the middle partition and I mean REALLY ramming it, he was like a horse possesed. I stopped to check him and he carried on doing it. I was just about to get him out the trailer when he calmed down, so I drove of really slowly. He did settle, but he was really odd coz he is usually a really good traveller. Im thinking of takign the middle partition out, as he has problems when I turn left aswell. Do you think this will help, as he may be able to balance himself better?

I would definately take the partition out. My mare is an absolute sod in the trailer when its partitioned, but when she has the whole trailer she is as quiet as a mouse.

I'd be really interested to hear responses to this but I can't really offer any help as mine is a bit like this too

When I tie him up and walk round to do the rear bar he pushes himself into the partition and looks round, even when the rope is very short, he's quite a clever contortionist

I think mine's problem is that he feels anxious and isolated in the box on his own

I've tried moving the bracing bars but so far nothing has helped

Sounds exactly the way the horse I loan started to travel badly. Had previously been fine. His owner bought full width bars instead of partition for the trailer and he is now good to travel again - think he had grown too wide / or didn't really "get it" that he was supposed to spread his legs to balance.

Incidently he didn't do it in an equitrek, so travelling backwards might help if thats possible?

What about buyng some bumper bars which are inflatable rubber supports that fit to the side of the trailer and contour themselves around the horse giving the horse better support?

Heard and read about this problem loads of times. Take out the partition and put full length breast breach bars in and I think you will find he is back to normal again. I dont know why but it seems horses travel fine then suddenly think, Im gonna fall over, I need room to spread my legs to balance. People often misunderstand it and put them in even tighter which makes things worse.
Another alternative to try would be to fasten the back part of the partition to the other side to give him more room to spread his legs.
Good luck, I hope you sort it.
