Hi grooming my horse today and noticed a drop of blood on his foot. Further investigation revealed that its source was a white tubular barnacle thing on his hind leg about 1/2 inch long and 2mm wide. Anybody seen this before? I am negatively assuming it is some sort of sarcoid but not like any I have seen before. Any opinions gratefully received, vet coming out on Mon.

Can we have a pic so we can see it before randomly asking if you have been on a beach recently or pointing out that it is in fact his chestnut/ergot? (This is a numpty thing that I would do!)

I agree a photo would have been helpful but haven't quite managed to figure out how to post those yet. The growth actually fell off yesterday followed by alot of bleeding. I have kept it to show vet and hopefully it won't grow back. And no it was not a chestnut or even an ergot. I use the term barnacle as a descriptive term not in its literal sense. Thank you for your reply.

My pony had something I can only describe as a 'cat's claw' grow out of her lower leg. It was definitely keratinous (horn/nail like) and bled when it came off. Then it grew back, but only ever to about half an inch long. It was a pale cream/grey colour and transluscent. Not so much like a barnacle though. The pony was in her late twenties.
