Had a curious one this morning. I took Mitch (on right) to the park. We met a pointer who was being looked after someone for a few days. I was telling him how Mitch is very enthusiastic with other dogs (rather obvious from the excited squeaking, he was very much under control and they had a nice sniff, Mitch never leaps around or anything) and the bloke said how he finds spaniels too much and prefers the working type. I couldn’t help but tell him Mitch is working lines bred. Possibly not obvious because he’s quite tall? Working dogs tend to be a bit livelier, ime.

Another cracker was someone telling me that Bear and Zak were smooth coated collies. Very determined, she was. I think they look convincingly spaniel like!

What odd comments have you had?

I was once told by a woman stewarding the ring entrance at an agility competition that my dog must hate her name and be traumatised by it- it was a slightly unusual name but nice, and not something that could be used as an insult/seen as mean in any way (also the same name as another dog on HHO). I was so surprised I just stared at her and walked past. It was such an odd thing to say, I can only think that she is just someone who likes saying things to upset people. FWIW my dog seemed completely untroubled by her name for the whole 14.5 years of her life 🤣

I had someone else insist that the two dogs I was walking must be mother and daughter. They were both black cockers and one was a little smaller than the other but they weren't mother/daughter, and the older one was never even bred from. It was one of those bizarre conversations where the other person isn't going to admit they are wrong, even when given the facts 🤷‍♀️

These days I'd be worried if someone asked if my girls could have puppies - I'd say they were spayed even if they weren't (they are).
Your girls are lovely.

windswoo. They are no longer here, bless them…but I am still living with a poodle( male)..he could be on this thread as he was born black( like silvers are) then changes to silver grey..the question of the day used to be “ where is the black dog” when he’d changed colour..and then people used to see him grey and think it was my brown girl who had become old and grey( he was then just one ) lol lol

People commonly refuse to believe that the whippets are not infact baby greyhounds, and even when they ask the breed and you say whippet, they ask when they are going to grow up to be a greyhound. 😅

Foal/pony/horse situation springs to mind!
We have Iggies and Whippets. The combination of questions are endless - are the iggies puppies of the whippets is a common one 😂

Pip- I’m constantly asked whether it’s whippet or Greyhound that she’s crossed with. People often don’t believe me when I say she’s purebred Damnation 😂

Ivy and Erik- constantly mistaken for spaniels, but I can’t blame anyone for that. Not many of the general public have seen/can identify a GLP- especially not a baby one! (Sorry- any excuse for a photo dump 😂)

I once had a collie x springer with lots of spots. I think 101 Dalmatians was on at most cinemas when a small girl saw him in our local town and screamed delightedly to Gran, look, there's a Dalmatian. She rushed over, made a fuss of him and asked his name. Half an hour later we encountered them again, look Gran she shouted, there's Percy the Dalmatian. Gran was by this time fed up and said, that's not a Dalmatian, it's a mongrel 😂😂. I'm not sure the child was convinced ..

My small brown terrier was mistaken for baby Pitbull 😳. He was about 5 at the time😊

I once had someone compliment me on how well behaved my puppy was as she was walking at heel alone the pavement (likely without lead attached but I can't quite remember). Dog in question was 7 at the time, though admittedly she is titchy. I was surprised so just sort of nodded and smiled...felt like a right fraud

I met a man out walking his Red Setter. He asked me if my Liver Flatcoat was a Red Setter! Now many people don’t know what flatcoats are, let alone the liver ones, but he was holding a red setter and my dog wasn’t even the same colour, shape, size or anything else! 😁
I have also been asked if my black flatcoat is a black red setter or a spaniel cross labrador! All good fun! 😁🐾
