What's the standard for course walking? I always thought you should be given the opportunity the day before to walk xc, but does this apply to the show jump course as well? Or are there different standards for different venues.? Or affiliated versus unaffilated etc? Thanks in advance
I ask as I suffer memory difficulties and also have a horse that cannot be left unattended so find walking on the day a no go at events generally and have just been completely surprised to find one I've entered is only walk on the day so as such am thinking of with drawing.

You usually can walk the xc the day before but not always the show jumping as it may not always be fully built the day before and also if you're not in the first class of the day it may get altered for subsequent classes eg double made into a treble or vice versa or an extra fence added.

Thanks for your reply. I must say in all the ones I've done before the xc has always been walkable the day before. :-/

xc pretty much always available the day before however I recently went to our area horse trials and they had changed the course on the day of competition and no one told me hence getting time faults which subsequently cost us a place of qualifying for the national champs so lesson learnt....... always check on the day if there have been any alterations!

The sj can vary by venue - sometimes they will have advertised course walk breaks or sometimes you just have to watch from the sidelines and are not able to walk it
