ODE!

hiya, ive got my first One day event next week, and its a first for my horse as well!can anyone give me any general tips for through the day , as ive only ever competed either SJ, dressage, or XC on their own and not sure how to prepare for all 3 in one day and what to do on the actual day!thanku
 
Dont do that many ODEs but best advice would be make sure you have plenty of helpers and make sure your ready well before your times! If youve got an hour between each dont relax too much because it will fly by!! Where are you competing? Good luck and remember to have fun!!!
 
Enjoy. Make a list and check over and over you have everything. Make the day enjoyable for horsey and you - bring him a nice haynet for inbetween phases and some money or a flask for coffee and refreshments for you. Don't ride your horse any differently warming up just because you are doing X3 events - he'll manage as soon as you enter the ring and especially the start box.

I only ever do little ODEs! Not brave enough! For some reason Im fine with big solid fences, but put a big show jump in front of me and i fall to pieces!! Good luck, im sure youll love it! Ive got one this weekend (if it stays dry!).
 
Definately make a list of everything you will need. My friend laughed at my list one time then realised she had forgotton her XC shirt and had to borrow mine - luckily I got to wear it first! She even had the cheek to complain she didn't like the colour!
The time between each phase goes faster than you think so be organised and have help you can rely on.
And most important - have fun!!!
 
oh if your doing port royal it is the most low key ode ever!!!the xc isnt even proper and you dont wear numbers or anything.but gd luk!
