The horses had a new bale yesterday, no problems. This morning they left it to wander around the fields, as they do. When they came back to it none of them would go near it! Lots of creeping up and snorting and leaping about. They wanted to, but something was seriously bothering them.

So, I did the michelin man thing, got the dogs and walked through the woods near the fence in case there was something in there upsetting them........nothing, except for a couple of deer. We approached the feeder and the dogs went crazy, older dog leapt in and started burrowing and snarling and put up THREE RACCOONS which had made themselves comfy in there. Lucky it wasn't skunks or else I'd have a whole bale of ruined hay!

My so called roughy toughy GSD guard dog took one look at them, tucked his tail between his legs and fled back indoors!

I've found a dead rabbit, pair of glasses and a rigger glove before now, but nothing alive!

Ah, the glasses, Tia lost a pair last year! That's where they went to!

poor rabbit, I wonder how many little creatures get baled up every year?

Tia, we did shoot the ones that had set up home in the tree in the front garden. I saw this little family this morning, the dogs must have treed them up the cottonwood in the paddock earlier on, strange that they are still together though, I usually only see them alone. They were just a bundle of fluff about 30' up......the place is seething with them, coon central here!

Oh how sweet!

I used to think that too!

They do look cute, but cost me a bomb in rabies vaccinations for the horses and the dogs. They are messy and destructive, a bit like giant rats with hands, just cuter to look at! I wouldn't like to corner one either. They are classed as vermin here. This one was about 6' away when I took this photo, it had made its' home in one of the trees about 20' from the house and used to hiss everytime anyone walked past. It moved off by itself, and wasn't one of the ones that we had shot.

Were they Gucci sunglasses? As Enfys says, I lost these in one of our hay fields last year, LOL!!

I found a baled fox once when I opened a round bale. It was very flat and very dead and I absolutely crapped myself and had to get OH to remove both it and the bale!

We've found alsorts in our big bales:

A trainer, but not until we mucked out the next morning - our lads have very big nets!

Half a golf club?! a mangled book and the remains of feathered creatures!!

Nice quality hayledge we cut??!! LOL

A trainer! OMG, I hope it wasn't attached to a leg when it was baled!

My lot, happy now and stuffing their faces again

Last nights snow has all but vanished, but more is forecast. There is a wicked lazy wind now, absolutely perishing..........which is why I have spent all morning lurking about on here. Waaaaaaay too cold to be outside for fun.

Well if it was they had their first taste of meat!!

Judging by the state of the bed, I reckon he tried it on for size and had a little jog around the stable!
