I've just taken Elz out for a quick ride, and she was really......weird. Fine at first; she was pacing around the yard, pricked up her ears when she saw her tack, then once I was on, she was eager to get going. We had a trot around her turnout field, and had a very scathing look at the titchy paddock our landlords are building us (I wont rant - thats another story altogether

) then we went off around an old stubble field. She was really quite strong, which isnt like Ellie at all - so I let her go, and had a bit of a wild canter. Several spooks and shies later, I was still in the saddle, and she began to puff a fair bit - again, not like her, for she is reasonably fit. She was sweaty too...and as we walked back up the track, I thought she was a bit uneven. Not lame, but not quite right either, although a lot better in trot than in walk. I got my slave brother to trot and walk her up for me, and although at first I thought she was a bit iffy on her near hind, I think I was just being paranoid; she isnt lame. But when I took off her tack, she became quite listless, just standing there looking dopey. She's had a good old scratch and a brush, but was quite happy to get into her stable ASAP. Just not normal Ellie!

Should I be worried, or could she just be having an off day? I have no idea whether she is due in season or not as she is rather variable, but she has been known to get a bit under the weather when she's in use, so it could be that.

I just dont like to see my horsey feeling down!

Maybe it's the weather! When I come back from a ride my horses are usually anxious to get back out in the field for a roll. Yesterday, I got back tied them up in the yard and washed them off. I then took their headcollars off (they have free access to their field and stables) and they just stood there in the sun for half an hour!

Was just going to say the same myself! My boy was horrible yesterday, but he's been ok today. I guess they do just have off days like we have.

She'll probably be back to her normal self tomorrow!

Hmmm. Sweaty and not quite right and puffy and listless. Don't like it. Couldn't be a bit colicky could she? I'm paranoid about this at the moment after my veteran had his first bout ever, after idiot me turning him out on lush grazing. He was sweaty, not himself, disinterested in things, breathing oddly. None of the more easily identifiable things like looking at his flank, thrashing about on the floor etc. Just don't like the sound of it MizElz and I'd have el Vetto out pronto. Hope she's better already and it was just one of those things xxx
