As I have just got a trailer, I have been doing some research into places in the local area where we can go for a nice day out hacking. I thought it would be a good idea to share some of the information in one place and hopefully others will add their favourite spots or more information about the places I have found.

I was thinking it would be useful to share locations, type of hacking, any costs and where a lorry or trailer can be parked.

Information about Kingsbury Water Park, Kenilworth Greenway and Stratford Greenway can be found here:

Solihull Riding Club boundary ride ( members only - think you would have to go quite often to make the cost worth it)

There is a few to get things started. I will add some more later.....

Ooh, have you been to Ragley? I would love to ride around there lording it up like Lady of the manor :)

The TROT ride at Ragley is lovely, but does not take you to the house. The parking is safe and the riding is to the north of the estate. Ragley is the most lovely place to ride or hunt around.

Many years ago I found myself behind the then Marchioness of Ragley. The field had disappeared, hounds were on and Her Ladyship turned to me and said 'we will go through the garden'. She was on a dainty TB with feet like teacups, I was on a heavyweight show hunter with feet like compost bins.

I followed her lead over the railings, cantered through the garden to the left of the house and popped out the other side. We pulled up and I expressed my concern about the mess my horse would have made. She just smiled and told me not to worry. I bet her gardener had a coronary when he saw the holes in the herbaceous border.

Several seasons later, I again found myself behind the Marchioness, this time at White Ladies Aston. Heading towards a large tiger trap, her horse ran down it, I hit her broadside, knocking her off her horse, my horse then refused and I fell off too. She took it all in her stride, chatting away until her horse was brought back to her. My horse stayed with me, his head hid behind my back in shame ! This all happened 25 years ago but will never be forgotten. The happiest hours I have ever spent on a horse have been in Ragley.

You can do the boundary ride at Solihull without being a member, you just have to pay per time as opposed to getting it free to use as part of the membership deal.

I can thoroughly recommend Park Farm chasers course. Fantastic jumps, lots of hill (one huuuuuge steep one for a good blast up)

There is good off road hacking round Hay Wood in Lapworth.

Very little parking for the Kenilworth Greenway, and all on roads with no where truely secure. You also need a key to have access through most of the gates on the route.

Kenilworth castle is great - we've parked on the carpark before and gone for miles through the bridleways/fields without ever seeing a road.

Does anyone ride on Cannock Chase and if so what area?
I used to go there alot but there were a few dog attacks and dog incidents so haven't been for a while. I do miss it though.

I keep my horse on the chase and the hacking is great. I'm by Castle Ring which is on the Cannock / Rugeley border.
