Ok, totally sick of idiot drivers on the roads. Went out hacking at 7'30 this morning and still had run ins with thoughtless drivers. there is nowhere near me to ride off road and the roads to get to the few bridle paths we have are getting worse and worse.
Anyone know of somewhere i can box up for the day and be able to ride without road riding. Yorkshire and north of england esp.
ps have been to escrick park in york several times and love it just looking to explore somewhere else.
Thanks:)

Are there any forestry commission forests near you where they permit horse riding. The search for South Yorkshire gives 4 FC forests http://www.forestry.gov.uk/website/recreation.nsf/$$SearchPlacesToGo?Openform&n=&nt=&cr=England&ct=South%20Yorkshire&op=h&sr=

We visited one in Bedgebury yesterday (Kent), apparently 28 miles of bridlepaths and tracks, only had time for 10 miles worth so will need to go back another day.

I know what you mean about the lack of off road riding, and I am quite fortunate in that we do have a few routes locally. Unfortunately with the lack of light in the evenings we can't really go anywhere after work now.

I know you don't have any Trot Routes in your area, but how about getting a couple of friends together and trying to set one up with local landowners. Trot will offer you advice and help to do this. http://www.tollrides.org.uk/

Good luck finding somewhere.

You have to pay £7 to drive into Dalby Forest, though it's fab once ur there. You can park free at Langdale End and ride in or park at Saltersgate car park, there's a bridleway to get in. Broxa forest is free to park.

Danby Beacon is a good spot to box to cos u can ride for miles from there on bridleways. Also U can park at the Lion Inn at Blakey near Rosedale and get onto the old railway line behind the Lion which goes for miles. Or u could go to Ravenscar and ride to Whitby along the old railway line there, that's a good ride.
There must be 100s more tho. I just look at the OS map to plot my routes, most of the moorland routes near me have decent horse gates too.
Good luck!
