Did anyone just see/hear the Offcom ruling about 'Pedigree Dogs Exposed' on the BBC 'Pedigree Dogs Exposed' just after Panorama? Brought by the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of GB and Miss Virginia Barwell.

And just if anyone cares, the KC are still refusing to implement the multi-point health plans being demanded by the GSD Partnership and are still dinging on about outside attraction. Yeah, sod the hipscores, as long as those pesky scruffs don't blow any whistles in the vicinity of our shows!!!

Yup I posted about it a few weeks ago when I saw it on the BBC news website

The CKCS Club's claim was thrown out (I keep telling my mum they need to get more media savvy

) but Virginia Barwell was the CKCS breeder who was shown completely out of context saying she wouldnt have her dogs scanned for syringomyelia

That is, of course, not what she actually said...

Yes, I remember that post, just the first time I had seen it broadcast, wonder why the time lapse?

It disturbs me, the amount of people basing their 'informed opinions' on breeds of dogs, including my own, on the strength of ONE programme and what was presented as 'fact', including a young teenager on here telling a relatively new member, who has bred working service dogs as well as breed ring champions, that her new female was 'deformed'.

For the breed fraternity who have been and still are banging their heads against a brick wall by trying to get the KC to introduce mandatory health tests in the way that the SV in Germany do, to be portrayed as a bunch of uncaring money-grabbers with wonky-legged dogs must have been a real kick in the teeth.

Thank goodness for ITV and Send in the Dogs

Interestingly the bitch who got the most points for protection at our trial last year was also judged fourth best young female in Ireland in the breed ring the year before.
At both those events, animals cannot compete in the top adult classes without acceptable hip and elbow scores, prior working qualification and DNA test.
Neither event would be endorsed by the English Kennel Club.

Don't suppose anyone wants to put that on a TV show...

I couldn't agree more. We should be encouraging people to buy from dedicated breeders with a reputation to protect and in whose best interests it is to produce healthy dogs. Of course some breeds have their problems, but who do they think is at the forefront of solving them? The breeders who are devoted to them of course! They almost make it sound like you're better off buying a manky puppy from a puppy farm!

Yeh I saw it last night. In Dog World this week there is a bit that the RSPCA are still banging on about trying to stop dog showing altogether. Whilst I am not a huge fan of showing any more can they not see if people aren't striving to improve the breed to show then the quality will deteriorate.
CC have you seen the FB group Save the GSD breed, will send it to you if you aren't already in.

Yeah MM, Heather McD invited me on it, cheers

People need to pull together on this issue, because of the amount of personalities involved, the KC have always found it very easy to 'divide and conquer' - this isn't about anything else about the breed now.
I had lost hope with that 'organisation' a long time ago

We need a German model (in terms of the mandatory health tests/working requirements/papering and ID) - the WUSV is an FCI organisation just like the Kennel Club and I would rather register with them, TBH.
