Oh dear. Haven't been out show jumping with the new mare for a few weeks, decided to go to BSJA at Norton Heath. This is NOT her favourite venue as she find the fences very spooky. Was umming and ahing about doing the 90cm Open - the plan was to take her into our first 1.10 next weekend. But as she had't been out for a while I decided to enter the 90 and the 1m. She went fine to fence 8 and then decided that she would NOT jump that silly pink bubblegum fence. Put in a stop with a throw to the side, and I went FLYING! Pics here of my flight - enjoy! (spectacular view of my bum unfortunately): http://pa.photoshelter.com/c/sportinpict...2tQJDZFAGdbG_s-
Maggie then decided not to get caught and to my horrible embarrasment proceeded to canter around the arena (which is big!) around ten laps (there is plenty of photographic evidence of this as well) before someone could catch her, much to everyones amusement. I had also sprained my hand so couldn't ride the next class.

I am so embarrased. I might have to give up show jumping. Though it was fairly amusing. It is not good to fall of a 17.2hh horse when you are over 30 and a bit stiff - I am certainly hurting today.

Might be time to get into some Parelli instead. Or, failing that, crocheting.

I am fine, no riding for a few days - mare is going back to that venue for a serious schooling session Thursday... Noticed when we came home that she is in season big time, and she is having a very naughty week generally... This horse came second in the HHO Foxhunter at Hickstead last summer (not with me, I hasten to add) and has fab BSJA results - she is totally just trying me out and her size does sometimes get the better of me, plus I am not a brilliant rider and can be far too passive.

Do feel free to laugh by the way - it is quite hilarious!

It is just very hard to practise on this spooking - she jumps absolutely everything in training, from any dodgy stride I get her into, and at any height, the most honest mare in the world- and then I take her out to competitions and her eyes are on stalks!

I'm afraid you will have to try harder. My last fall sj I managed to land on the other side of the oxer backside first and I took the bridle with me. Honestly it was way more impressive than that. Unfortunatly aswell my mare made a bee line, in a sedate walk, towards a really good looking guy who happened to be there. At least yours looked lively and justified being difficult- mine looked like a plod!

PS chocolate helps recovery

Ouch, hope you are not too sore. Can't say I am a big fan of that bubblegum pink fence at NH either, it was only 75cm when I was there, but George took a dislike to it and I ended up on the floor - thankfully there wasn't a photographer there.

It is a horrid fence. I have seen a Grade A refuse to jump it 20 times before deciding he would get to go home quicker if he just popped it.

From now on, I will only ever jump at venues that use poles only, I think. At my age you just cannot risk falling off too often, it is far to painful and humiliating (seeing pictures of your bottom in mid-air on the internet does nothing for ones confidence, and I am newly single).

oooooh i was there too and saw your fall! was yours the mare who cantered round and round (and round and round!) and the judge said "who taught this one to lunge"
lovely mare though... shame about the fall as was a nice round. hope your ok.
p.s. i was the one in the blue and white striped jumper standing by the gate with david (the course builder)

Haha oh yes - that was us! She was NAUGHTY wasn't she? And for the record, she is quite naughty to lunge too... lots of bucking. Mare will be worked quite hard this week, and I believe she will benefit from another outing next weekend - if my blue hand can hold the reins!

Thanks Bossanova - they are pretty good pictures, aren't they? Once my sense of humour is stronger than my sense of humiliation of falling off in a 90 cm class, I might decide to buy one!

Thanks everyone for laughing, it is helping my bruised ego (though not my bruised body)!

I agree with HH - far more embarassing if you had a large bum like myself.

I wouldn't dare wear white breeches, and have a wonderful collection of beige/cream/mushroom ones.

Hope you have a good schooling session on Thursday, and naughty mare behaves herself.

Fiona

Don't apologise for laughing! Horsie was loving her good runaround without me - just as well she got a good workout since I couldn't ride the second class!

Ladies- may need to switch to beige jods now - I wasn't quite prepared to be photographed in such a compromising position - though yes, I guess it would have been even worse and the jods could have split a la Fenella Maxwell in "Riders"!

oh no! my first thought was how slim you looked as you were flying through the air. if it had been me that photo would have been very unattractive
