As some of you may or may not know I have been searching for a new forever friend.
Well I haven't actually been to try anything yet.
Since having to have my precious boy pts recently I was finding it hard coming to terms with anything else living up to him.

Anyway a friend of a friend got in touch saying she has too many horses and not enough time to ride them all with winter being just round the corner.
So off I pootle yesterday to meet her and her mob!
I asked to ride the safest one.
So I was introduced to him (ex racer).
And all I can say is wow wow wow... He was shamazing! I loved him, I am in love, even with his quirk! (Bunny hopping when he wanted ti canter!)
What an absolute babe!
Hence to say I will be going over a few more times and if all goes well, in time he'll be coming home with me.
Not much to answer to this really.
I just had to share, after thinking I was a cob person, I think I have been converted. ..
Thanks for reading
Kate x

Another convert :D It's so lovely when you click with a horse, even if its not your usual 'type'! I love my ex racer, will be watching Champions Day today as Hillstar is one of her relatives ( wish she was as fast!!)

Lucky you. I've got an ex racer as a share and apart from being a bit green schooling wise he's pretty sensible. Things like plastic bags in bushes and birds suddenly appearing never bothered him. Not too keen on motorbikes though hence my being laid up as he fell on me. Not his fault really he slipped. :(
It's such a shame that so many people expect them to be nutters and don't consider them when choosing a horse. Best of luck with your new buddy.

Ah how lovely! Ex-racers can make brilliant riding horses with a little work, so many people overlook them, which is sad. I find they tend to be less spooky and easier to load. I love my ex racer, wouldn't swap him for any other.

Hope it all goes well for you and you get to take him home :)

Lol never steriotype horses by breeds etc as by heck in all breeds type and history there are some gems. section D's pah would never have bought one till baby came unexpectedly in my life. Now i would willingly have another amazing breed so total convert lol

The safest and most sensible horse on the yard isn't the veteran cob, or the 20yo hunter, but Reg the Racehorse :D He's 4 years out of racing and safe enough my grannie could ride him- my mum rides and leads off him! He'll pop round a BE100 without breaking sweat he's so fit, but merrily lollop along wherever he's put in a group hack... Honestly, people pay stupid money for a horse as safe as he is but wouldn't even consider him because he happens to have his past. Luckily he'd never be for sale!

Welcome to the ex racer club, our best horse ever was an 18yr old ex racer, didn't have him nearly long enough and still a miss, I knew by my OH's smile after trying him that he was coming home with us, RIP Ocean Spray aka as Ozzy, if yours is half as good you have a friend for life, must have pics though

They are the best. When you click with them it's amazing, they are definitely one person horses, and I think they choose you as much as you choose them.

I was converted when my girl came in to my life 9 years ago, sadly I lost her suddenly September last year :( , but I would love to have another one someday, ex-racers are amazing
