Oh dear, i've created a dressage "expert" after 40mins at Burghley. :(

my OH is not horsey, and his only exposure to dressage so far is watching the vid of Blue Hors Matine at WEG, online, because i was so bowled over by it i just had to make him watch it. So, yesterday we watched 2 Burghley tests (with sotto voce explanations by me), followed by Richard and Gillian Davidson and Steff Croxton's excellent dressage demo, obviously on their mega-powered pure dressage horses. He really liked the "very springy" ones.
yesterday evening, i checked online and said "oh, that test we watched, Polly Stockton... she's in 5th place. i thought it was good."
A small pause.
OH: "Were those ones we saw actually competing then?"
me: "Err, yes."
OH: "Oh." Big pause. "They weren't very good, were they?"
Oh, dear. when i finally get something to do dressage on, he's going to think i'm completely rubbish. watching the best in the world first wasn't the best idea, was it?

I have a feeling i may be in the same boat when i start competing again. not that he's the most competitive person i've ever met or anything... oh well, eventing'll soon cure that.

Oh I could have warned you about that one! My OH is an expert on everything he has seen once! We watched a dressage demo at Badminton with Pammy Hutton's daughter on a grey pony he turned to me and said 'see if the kids can do it, it can't be too hard!

i can tell he's going to think i'm completely rubbish when my eventers don't go like Grand Prix dressage horses. honestly. *sighs*

I met my OH when I was still on ponies and winning almost every time out, now if I come home with anything he is gobsmacked as quite often we spend 14hours at an event to be pleased with a DC or 11th or 12th!??? Maybe he has a point!

pmsl, was schooling a horse for someone the other day, and having to work quite hard at it, and oh passed by and said "you don't slouch as much as you used to" - from the person who sat on a pony once, bareback, aged 9.



Unfortunately he is right.

hahaha tell me about it.
my best ever was taking one horse somewhere, for the Intermediate. we were the first ones there in the morning (she was very tricksy at dressage, and i was trying out working her in twice.) we had to wait for the prize giving, and ended up being the very last to leave. with one horse. unbelievable. i think we were there for about 18 hours. :O

I know this feeling, whenever he sees GP horses on telly he's all "Why can't Willow do that then?" He can piaffe beautifully but only when tied up in the lorry

So I had my revenge when we went to Alpe D'Huez on holiday last week. He could only manage to gasp his way up 12 of it's 21 hairpin bends, one at a time back to the chalet!

So all the way home I'm saying "Lance Armstrong did it why can't you?" Works a treat

Those hairpins are fierce aren't they? I've only been there for skiing but the hill up seemed like a long way up on the bus!
