Oh dear went on holiday naughty Charlie !!!

Hi all,
Went on holiday for 2 weeks was going to put the 2 dogs in kennels when I went but 2 work friends offered to have one each so thought great. Older one went to one friend who doesn't have a dog nor much experience but knew he would be easy to look after so wasn't worried and he was perfect as I expected and he wanted to keep him.

Charlie the younger one just under a year went to my other friend who has 2 year old Norfolk terrier, who my dogs know well he's stayed at mine regularly walked together ect and get on usually really well. Owner trained him well experienced with dogs.
Now Charlie is usually really good been house trained for ages really laid back with other dogs occasionally needs reminding of thing but that's due to his age I think nothing serious just that it's not ok to beg not to pull on the lead.
Well he showed me well and trully up peed everywhere (he's neutered ) and been to the house regularly so knows it. He was crated as he is at home when alone. He also went for his dog quite a few time drawing blood but nothing to serious and was generally a real pain in the arse!!! I was so embarassed I told him he was really good although would occasionally would have a mad moment was well behaved!!
Do you think it was just the stress of been left was his first time? Is there something I can work on? Or maybe I'm just best putting them in kennels when im away? It's not something I'm really keen on as I know it would stress the older one out!!

By the way Charlie was very well exercised by my friend.
 
Perhaps the stress of being seperated from his best mate and his owner at the same time?

Could you get a house sitter instead if you are worried about kennels?
 
I think the stress of being away from you and your other dog might well have caused him to regress. He is still very young so its not impossible to fix, is it possible after a suitable time elapse for you all to go and stay with this friend for perhaps a weekend and work from there. When you do decide to go away again I would keep the dogs together and give your friend a written routine. Its quite possible even though you said your friend is experienced they might have done something different to you which made your dog anxious and to relapse.
 
House sitter isn't an option as i live on a private estate through my job so couldn't leave somebody at my house without me there.
He did still see his mate daily at the stables and out walking so but apparently got a bit funny with him too snapping at him several times.
They've been fine since hasn't peed anywhere so I think it was related to me been away.
Tbh I felt so bad I wouldn't ask him again he even peed on his bed!!! So think kennels would be the next option. Tbh this was my first holiday in 5 years as my dad took me, but we are talking about taking daughter and niece to Disney land Paris next year :-). So would like to plan in my head what to do.
 
My young one has stayed with my good friends twice and he was a holy terror both times, wrecking soft furnishings, digging holes etc and they are quite no-nonsense dog people. I put it down to him being a little ratbag :o
I put him in kennels now because they have their own dogs and it is not fair. I found a good kennels with opportunities to run with other dogs and pop over small agility course...they are accommodating to my ridiculous rules (no blankies or beds - he eats them, no balls, only food I supply) and I am very happy to leave him there. He still comes back feral but at least he is not stressing anyone else out.

Yer I think it's the best option as I would worry the whole time I was away. I think if I could find a smallish one with a secure area for them to run free, as been terriers that like chasing things and although they always come back to me I would worry with a complete stranger.
 
The one I use is smallish, with a high fence around the yard, and the kennels are inside a building with mesh windows and roller doors so that they can have dark downtime, and all the external doors are double doors...I've used about four now and this is by far the best, it is small and family run and told me last time he had been running around the yard all day with a small furry terrier attached to each ear :o they are used to his boisterousness and always comment on how happy a dog he is...too bloody happy, that's the problem :p
 
That sounds like the sort I would look for and somewhere where the older one would get a cuddle as he does love a cuddle. They are quite happy in a stable for a day if I'm at a show where they can't go just go to sleep so hopefully they would settle.
I'm surprised he was so naughty for me he's been so easy and apart from some chewing when he was younger hasn't really done anything really naughty. I was worried he would crate him when he wasn't there and he would chew but that wasn't a problem. He was just a s@@t in other ways I still can't believe he peed on my friends bed!!! He wouldn't dare do that at mine!!
