this is so sad, why would you sell it for £100 why not donate it to ilph or horseworld, and why would you say newmarket joint supplement isnt expensive as i think it is??
I feel so sorry for this horse, old and unrideable, she isnt going to ensure its not put under rider by selling it for £100!!!!!!!!!! such a shame
So very sad. She is being sold for less than meat money, so I think we can guess where she will end up. Totally irresponsible to sell her. And as for saying Newmarket supplement isn't expensive - words fail me.
I don't think she should be 'donating' or should I say 'dumping' the poor thing anywhere - thats getting someone else to take on the costs and liabilities for her. She needs to face up to her responsibilities as a horse owner!

I am not sure if I agree with the comments being posted about this. In my experience when you fill out an online form often you have to put a price when there isnt one. No one knows this ladys circumstances: whether its her horse, or whether she has been dumped on herself! Not everyone is blessed with a nice house and adjoining land to keep a horse on forever. It may even be her last ditch attempt at getting the horse into a nice home for keeps. Who knows I certainly dont feel qualified to comment on her because I dont know her circumstances. The only favour done here is giving the poor situation some exposure.
True to say it is quite dangerous to put a horse up for sale below meat prices it is calling for disaster. One hopes she will note the buyers intentions and follow it up.
Why not put her on grass livery or, if the owner is unable to afford that, have her put down? As harsh as that seems, it's much fairer than selling her as she will more than likely go to an abbatoir for meat so surely it would be better for her to be put down at home and not have to go through the stress of that. Or worse, she could be bought by somebody who does not know what they're doing and end up being ridden.
Am I correct in thinking that it's not wise to put a 17yo maiden mare in foal, as suggested in the add? I have no knowledge of breeding but I can't imagine this would not be a good idea (I stand corrected if anybody has experience of this).
Poor thing she should contact the Veteran Horse Society they rehome anything over the age of 15. It would be sad if they sold her she could end up going somewhere and get ridden even though she would be in pain
Personally I think if you have an older horse you should keep them as spoilt pets in their old age I still have my ex eventer who is 23 now and still comes in every night and gets very spoilt in general!
This is a shame. I agree that she could end up in a bad situation. Perhaps the girl doesn't know about the veteran Horse Society. Has anyone e-mailed her to tell her of this option? Might be an idea. Not everyone wants a big horse like her as a companion as they can be too high maintenance. She looks so lovely too, wish I had my own place.
Hardly a broodmare at 17 and never having had a foal. And does she not expect timewasters at £100. She would be much better being pts to be quite honest.
The first picture clearly shows how to tie up safely!
Poor horsie. Looks as though she could still enjoy life (despite the knee), but the owner isn't willing to accept responsibility for looking after her/PTS.
