We often pass friends field, depending on what way we walk home and I always take photos of her horses (and put them on disk for owner) today was no different.
Polo was flat out, assumed he was sleeping and snapped away. He didn't move, and eventually raised his head as two old dears came along, with carrots.
Chatted to them, they said he had been a bit stiff as was having leg trouble. Bloke threw carrots in but Polo didn't move.
Alarmed, I said no more and phoned the owner. She explained that he had a bad bout of colic, vet had been with him a while, they couldn't get him up, so he was given meds and left for a while. They were going back with vet just after I called.
I stopped the man giving him more carrots and Rachel retrieved the ones in field next to him, and gave him a stroke.
He is in a bad way, no idea if he will pull through

He is 14/15, lovely little horse (Connemara x)
We watched him for a while, but really, there is nothing we can do except hope he makes it.

Fingers and everything crossed for him (I was going to put the photo here, but that seemed a bit wrong)

Edited to add a photo from last summer

I know

I hate people feeding horses over the fence.
I did tell the bloke he shouldn't feed, but 'we always do'.
some people just don't get it

Feed mine carrots and I will be in orbit!!!!!!!!! We had one with a myriad of food allergies and when they were in fields next to footpaths it was a nightmare. One old bloke was feeding her bread and when we explained the problem, he just said that she liked bread

I'm sorry but am I understanding this right, the vet and owner gave him treatment and meds for colic, saw no improvement/couldn't get him up, and so just left him hoping that he would improve...?
