I have a major problem....

I have a shih-tzu who's (counts on fingers) it's too early, she's 2 in June anyway....

Whilst I'm at work in an afternoon she's in a pen outside with my other dog, went out last night to bring her in, later than usual as after work (9pm finish) I decided to wash the floors and let them dry, knowing I wouldn't have time before Mothers iminant arrival....and there's a puppy in the corner of the pen

Had a feel underneath them both (both bitches) and it was obvious it was from her, scooped it up, it was cold and wet, but alive. Raced inside with them both, briefly stopping to throw other dog into the kitchen, and a good rub made it a bit more lively. Put it with mum who layed in front of the fire and had a wash etc.....

Half an hour later there's another

I'm a little shocked to say the least....She lives in, is groomed most days, yet there were no tell-tale signs. My Mother thinks it's hilarious, as she breeds labs and I grew up with pups etc, how I didn't notice anything untoward is beyond me, but I suppose with only 2 she wouldn't be that big, and they're only about 4" long..... Her milks come in properly now, and mum and babies (a dog and a bitch) are doing well.

How this happened is beyond me, I'm so careful....I live in the middle of nowhere, and the only do around is a white EBT with a black patch over his eye...guess what markings the little bitch has? He must have gotten out and into my pen, or garden, whilst I was out...I know his owner was sneaking him out of someone elses garden the other day....so it's more than possible....

Sooooo.....EBTXShih-Tzu...interesting mix

Luckily my Mother's coming down later with a whelping box and heatlamp, as I'm really not set up for puppies, they're in a cardboard box in the lounge (the only room that has heating) as they're so tiny I think little heads could get stuck through the crate.....

ETA I stupidly didn't realise there was a dog section this was better suited to

Ah - don't think you better leave the girls in your garden in future or Mr. EBT could make a return visit.
Bet the puppies are cute though.
How's Henry doing btw? Is his foot abscess on the mend?

The dog is 4.2" long and weighs 6.2oz

The bitch is exactly 4" long and weighs 5.5oz

Mum's doing well, I daren't crate her as the pups can fit through the gaps, and I'd hate for one to wiggle and get stuck, then get cold, someone suggested lining the crate with cardboard, but I'm loathe to do this as I don't want anything the pups could potentially wiggle under/behind.....

But Mum just wants to be with me.....hence me being sat up most of the night!

Jaylen-Henry's doing loads better thanks, now he's not freaking out at his multi-coloured foot he's going out, which he's better with! He's gained 17KG's in total, which can't be bad!

DreamerII....you're more than welcome to one-I can't say what they'll look like!

Oops! Well they should be interesting as they grow up

Hopefully the bitch will settle down soon, it was obviously a bit of a shock to her too. Once you have the whelping box and lamp I would try just leaving her shut somewhere safe with them . She will probably fuss to be with you at first but it is likely her maternal instinct will kick in and she will settle to looking after her pups. Just keep an eye on her for a while. Good luck!
