My OH bought a filly last year to show and also to keep my gelding company. He always said he would never sell her, she is such a sweet natured and pretty little thing. She's now rising 2 but is only going to make about 13.2hh so my OH obviously is never going to be able to ride her. He pays her rent and feet, I pay for food, hay, bedding, wormers etc.

He said to me today that he doesn't really think it's worth paying out for her anymore when he can't do anything with her. Yes he knew this when he bought her!! (MEN!) But the problem is I really can't afford to take on paying another rent! I desperately don't want her to go because I'm so attached to her. I understand she is an expensive pet but....she can't go!

The chances of loaning out a rising 2 year old is highly unlikey. I only know of people getting rid of their horses, not taking on one's that they can't even ride!

I really don't know what's going to happen :(
Why aren't I rich and money not be a problem!! :(

Sorry to hear this, but people do change their minds... I hope this does not put a strain on your relationship.

If you cannot afford two horses, and you absolutely will not let her go, can you
- move them somewhere cheaper? (on grass)
- sell, loan or get a sharer for your gelding?

I actually have 2 already, then my OH's filly makes 3! So I'm already paying out for 2, and a 3rd is just out of the question.

I will never sell my gelding as he is my life. He's rising 4, going to be coming back in to work in Spring, but he is sharp and lively (and will be very green obviously), I think it would be difficult to find a loaner for him, plus I don't want to share my baby!

I would find a loaner for my other pony, but he's rising 3 and unbroken. Been sat on, not fussed etc. But would anyone loan an unbroken pony?

I have too many youngsters it seems :(
