Well as some may know, had the vet yesterday who gave me the all clear to ride seren and give her a bute if needed.
Got her ready and went to walk out and she was not good. I dont mind riding her on her good days but she was not good and I did not feel happy riding her even if 'buted'(she wasnt) as she was 'hobbling' every few metres it seemed today

I just feel like I am back at square one again

I thought after the vets all clear yesterday we could move on and get the confidence issues resolved again, but I felt wrong to ride her as she was

She is out in the field with hay after a bute just to ease her

I suppose I will see if she is better next weekend, perhaps it was the shoeing on tuesday that has left her feeling it a bit. Just feel so deflated and needed to share.
Thanks for listening *cookies* for doing so

I dont know the history here I'm afraid, but if your mare has recently had a big work up with the vets, allowing them to give her the 'all clear' it might be she is feeling it a bit today, but will come good again in a day or so? This will be particularly true if she has had quite a bit of time off and has lost some fitness

Fingers crossed that is all it is

Hiya. Thanks yes it could have left her sore. She did not have much of a work up but more then she has done in some time I guess.
It just leaves you feeling so deflated. Thanks though, appreciate your response. I just have to sit it out and see if she comes right enough that I feel she is her comfortable self which she can be, it just seems those times are less and less.

Aww, I feel your pain! My grey (in my siggy) injured himself in the field last February and every time he goes out and fools around now I find myself wincing
blush.gif
I will start backing him again in the spring but for the time being I've just turned him away because I found myself agonising over the tiniest improvement / deterioration in his lameness...finally he does now seem to be consistently sound

What happened to your mare?

Hope your boy stays good, I know what you mean, that agonising over the smallest of changes good and bad, they are a nightmare!

Well my mare has quite bad rotation in one of her front feet, she was on loan to a riding school and her feet were neglected and she was jumped around a cross country

Beggars belief really, so after a long road getting her outer foot right sadly we have not been able to repair the rotation. She is really honest and does not show signs of lameness easily so I feel that as she was today, bute or not it simply was not fair. Had her 18yrs this july and she is 20 soon enough and I just wonder, too much I suppose and rive myself nuts. Will have to see how we go

How awful for you that a school, which you would assume would be the last place to neglect things like that, would let her get into that situation!

Have you got her on any supplements? Bentley's injury was a twist to the foot and it caused a wrench/twist injury to the coffin joint. On the vets recommendation he is now on Cosequin, and it has made a world of difference to him- may be worth a try?

Best of luck with her x

Hi thanks, yeah she is on all sorts of added extra's on top of the chaff and hi fibre nuts. She gets garlic, apple cider vinegar, magnesium, and glucosamine now she is older.

Thanks, I think I need to try her out with a small amount of bute and see how she goes and just accept what the vet has advised unless of course it becomes detrimental to her.
