Oh god... It's raining again...

I have bought one of mine in a few times in the last five days or so, I checked the forecast and put him out last night and today but bought him in again this evening. He doesnt like the rain and although I know he wont melt he really is much happier indoors

The colt is like a yak and seems indifferent to the rain and has stayed out

Their field has standing water but apart from the gateways is holding up very well

Am in Leicestershire and the river Soar is fuller than full and there is a lake where one week ago there was a field. It's raining again now quite heavily. The horses were given access to their new shelter this week and just in time too. They are actually using it as well. The access areas are very muddy though. Bridle paths are rivers of mud and roads nearby are all flooded. It's not looking good right now. :(:(

Our 'grass livery' came in tonight just to give him a break from the rain - he looked very pleased with himself!!

Am dreading trying to 'recover' the fields come spring...

Out 24/7 in a rain sheet but had a day in today before clipping (american barn set up thankfully).

Very pleased with him today not a hoof wrong for his biggest clip yet yipppeee. 2nd clip this winter already.

Field beginning to show signs of wear and tear so will move into winter field soon.

my lad comes in over night any way but our fields are on a slight incline so the water runs off well and they stay relatively un-churned (as long as they dont all gallop around!), only the bit by the gate us muddy.

Would hate to be on level low lying fields though

Out 24/7 - field isn't too bad considering, holding water in places but it is about 10 acres and does have dry patches, but it is the gateways and fields prior to ours that we go through which are hideous. Walking?, no it is paddling and wading through what can only be a bog. Bluddy nightmare when carrying feed buckets and sacks of hay.. find myself getting stuck and going in circles to gain my balance!

CAN NOT COPE WITH ANY MORE RAIN

Surely someone has the 'no more rain dance' moves they could share? What I thought it was clearly isn't working!!

Bugger the fields I am sat here listening to the rain having discovered a leak in my car whilst driving from the yard grrr!! My waterproof jacket is currently protecting my centre console!!!

Out 24/7, two wear rugs because they are clipped, 3 don't.

Ridge and furrow means fab drainage and ridges mean horses are not standing in mud and water all the time, thought they insist at the bit they wait for their dinner and haynets...:D

Nice high hedges and trees for shelter.

We've been where we are now for almost 6 years....

I am on a high ridge, but water runs from top of hill through our field, spagnum moss growing very well will soon make a natural trampoline.

Have decided that as the boys trot happily through splashing the water as they go it is good training to go them through water for when they are older!

On a serious note, they have lovely thick coats and seem unworried, they can go in if they wish but do not seem worried. Main thing is that they can get out of wind which ever way it is coming from and their are sufficient areas which are not affected by water, they are not interested in hay yet so still getting grass.

I keep checking heels etc, but find that their feathers are doing a great job and although the tops look less than perfect white, closer to skin is really clean.

I started bringing mine in on Thursday night. Although we aren't currently flooded their fields are just getting wetter & one of them seemed a bit miserable about the whole thing.
I had been thinking about it because it just makes working the young 'un easier so seeing the weather forecast was the final kick up the bum.

Our girl came in at two this afternoon. She had had quite enough of the rain for today and had an early night and a large Haynet. Gave her a whole swede in her stable for the first time today too, will be interesting to see if she has worked out what it is ...

Our field is on a high ridge, but the water from the top of the hill runs down through our field, so areas are really boggy and growing very good spagnum moss.

Have decided having watched boys troting through the water that it is good training for when they are older!

On a serious note, they have lovely thick natural coats, have shelter but prefer to be out. They have plenty of field not under water and as they are not interested in the hay I offer, they seem to be getting sufficient grass as it seems to be still growing.

Am keeping an eye on their heels, but their natural feather is doing its job and keeping them lovely and clean.

Just hate all these grey days and dark afternoons!

I have 4 out in two paddocks with shelters, two have rugs on two without, they get fed and hayed twice a day, but I still feel guilty when there walking around in lots of mud by the fence :-(
The fields are on slight slopes, so they do drain considerably well, luckily.

Officially tonight my ponies who were 24/7 365 living out, hardy ponies come rain, snow, ice, sunshine have breathed a sigh of relief of being tucked up in a stable. Our fields are awful for drainage and as they are on low land, they are now lakes, there is not one square foot that is remotely dry. I have never seen so much mud and water, and the stream that runs through the middle of the 2 main fields is about to burst. They trotted in on their own accord, and both have had mini cold baths as they were drenched in mud up to their bellies and desperately needed re oiling as one of cob's legs is looking sore and scabby in a random place (?!)

After finding the cob can cope with staying in and not walk out like a robot with his arthritis when I bandage his back legs, give him a deep bed and some danilon, I will happily give in to my previous attitude of 'They're horses they can stay out whatever the weather' and give them at least a week in at night whilst we are meant to be battered with more torrential rain and wind:(

So far we've had it not too bad. Lots of rain and wind, but not that much worse than usual in the Pennines!! We have a wonderful hardstanding area outside the yard, that we built last year, and it is worth its weight in gold. The horses go out on that with haylage nets all day, they can get into the yard and shelter under the overhangs if need be. The fields are pretty rank but they always are!

Really feel for those in danger of flooding.

Its not rained here today yet, but im sure we've a weather warning in place for overnight and tomorrow, my horses are in my winter field now, so theyve decent shelter from the hedge all around it, but theyre in every night now anyway, i like to know theyre tucked up inside with their haylage in big beds if its howling a gale and peeing down, theyre at the gate as it starts to get dark now looking to come in

We're on clay so it gets very bad :( Friday was dry and yesterday morning was nice so we put the youngsters out for a few hours. I suspect they'll be in for a while now as it never stopped raining all night and looks like a lot more on the way.

We normally have 5 or 6 that winter out but not this year. Give me freezing conditions any day, I much prefer cold to wet!

mines in, has been for so bloody long now and he's turning into a total demon.

he's getting quite nippy, bargy, and generally quite stressed. i put him out in the hardcore the other day but he just stood at the gate as theres no grass in there. i need this rain to go awaaaaaay :(

Our fields are drenched. Have had to limit turnout time and in light of heavy rain all last night, horses will have to stay in all day today. Just out for a hour or so as we do the stables. Hate doing it but the fields will be ruined for later on this winter if we continue.

our paddock has a river at the end and ive spent many sleepless nights wondering if the ponies are going to end up floating away, I have one mini in 24/7 at the mo as he is foot sore due to previous lami issues and with only one stable the other is looking miserable, even though he is a Dartmoor Hill with a coat about three inches thick and a rain sheet he just hates it and hangs around the stable looking sorry for himself, so before more rain arrives this afternoon we are turning our very large potting shed (10x8) into another stable, thank god my mum is fab at DIY, at least both of them can come in for some respite, the paddock is sodden with water and im totally fed up with the rain and mud, cant wait for some drier weather

So glad I put my girl in early yesterday. Such a blustery rainy night but this morning the sun has come out and her field is sparking and fresh. She's rested and warm with a big pile of hay to much through. You can't beat the feeling of satisfaction when your horse is happy!

North Yorks - lovely and frosty ride out yesterday, but dreadful here again today - aaaaaaaaaaaargh !!! No turnout yet again.

Shy may only have little legs, but believe me he is in need of a good gallop, he's like a coiled spring , not able to do anything other than walk and trot on the roads atm.

How are people with TB's etc coping ?

This is my field yesterday. Its fairing well to say there are 3 on it (2 24/7) The gateways are like swamps (there are 2 so we can alternate) but I think considering how much rain we have had its could be a lot worse
