Yes, I didn't sleep for a week before regionals, stupid really as I knew I wouldn't get placed but I was so scared of making a fool of myself. I don't think I have ever been that nauseous with nerves, I actually look green in the photos! Take it easy you will be fine!!

That is exactly how I feel CSYMolly!!!

I keep having strange dreams about it, about forgetting the tests, looking a complete prat and really letting Grace down

Ignore your dreams, unless they are about winning!! You certainly wont look a prat, you will be just fine. Get out there and enjoy it. Try and imagine its a schooling session at home and you want her going to the best of her ability.
You are just as good as everyone else cos youve all qualified to be there so it is the same for everyone.
Whatever happens, just keep smiling and remember you are doing it for fun!

Well if it helps, we didn't make a complete fool of ourselves, ok we weren't placed but we got a respectable score and held it together. Ride for your life, then you know you gave it your best shot and couldn't have done anymore no matter what the outcome. Go for it gilr!!!

Yes I do get nervous but found relaxation techniques help me and a bottle of rescue remedy!!! You just go and enjoy yourself and if it helps anyone can make mistakes, etc.. and you will not look a pratt at all etc... enjoy and ride and pretend you are a top dressage star!!!!!

For anyone who has trouble with performance nerves, try and get hold of a copy of "That Winning Feeling" by Jane Savoie.

It is written by an American, so there some parts which seem a little over the top to the staid British eye - but the core of the book will be a terrific help to those who need to learn to focus. Once you can focus, your nerves will come under control.

The beauty of this book is that it is not just another sports psychology manual, but is written specifically for dressage.
