Oh good grief, why can't anyone respect a confidence!

I am sitting here ignoring a text from a client whose horse has been on trial for a week with another client. Obviously I have been trying not to get involved with this transaction - if I had been acting for just one or the other I would have said to the seller, don't sell to this person, they will fall out with the horse within weeks and sell it on. I would have said to the buyer, don't buy this horse, it is not the horse for you (and listed the reasons).

Today the buyer arrived in my yard with the horse and asked me to ride it, which I did, and I recommended strongly that she did not buy it. So instead of ringing the seller and explaining that for various reasons she had decided not to buy the horse, she has told them that her decision was based on my recommendation.

Oh thank you very much :(

Explain to the owner why you said that. If the owner thinks anything of its horse , owner will respect your opinion of prospective purchaser. I would hate to sell one of mine to a person and then they sell it on in weeks and make a quick buck without thoughts on where horse may end up.

That's what OH said, but tbh I was trying to avoid being in the position where I was offering an opinion of one client to another.

On the other hand, the buyer has landed me in it rather, but I wouldn't want the seller then going back and saying I had told them that about them.

Oh poo.

Don't you just love it when people lack in diplomacy

Why couldn't they have just said the horse was lovely but didn't really suit their requirements after all - easy

don't try to tell seller why, just say that it is not the horse for 'buyer' and that client confidentiality prevents you from saying more but that they should trust you are right on this.

I would not be offended if on trial buyer got someone to judge the suitability of horse and rider for each other. Its just the same as bringing an instructor with you to view and saying horse not suitable...fine..next viewer please..

The joys of people. Maybe the buying (or rather not in this case) is incapable of coming up with anything, maybe they saw nothing wrong in telling the seller the reason (they might have thought that your opinion would carry more weight).

Don't stress lass. Have a hot choccy.

I'm impressed that your opinion carried that much weight. Most people who are stupid enough to upset / ruin horse after horse are far too arrogant to listen to the opinion of a mere professional (yes I've come across a few!).

I would be inclined to tell the seller that had the buyer gone though with the purchase, it would not have been a happy match for either horse or rider.

lol :D this buyer has ignored my professional opinion so many times that OH nearly fell over when I told him she'd asked me about this horse!

It sounds to me like the buyer had already made up their mind that they didnt' want the horse, and that they just wanted the point reinforcing by you....they have cleared themselves of all blame and just put it onto you. Charming!
