I just ordered a 25kg bag of linseed which I (stupidly) assumed would be micronised and ready to feed, and I now realize is in fact whole.

So. Please can somebody tell me the quickest and least messy way to boil linseed? Or should I just cut my losses and order a bag of micronised linseed?

Rather than boil it grind 1 cup fresh each day in a coffee grinder - then your horse will get the best of bothe Omega Oils for his coat and joints.

Takes only a couple of minutes.

If you really want to boil, In a large saucepan, Put seed in plenty of cold water with a dessertspoon of salt, bring to boil and then simmer gently for 20 mins and then allow to cool.

WARNING - chasing boiled-over Linseed is enough to have you give up horses for EVER!

Have you a slow cooker if so bring to boil in pan boil hard for a few minures tip into slow cooker and cook around six hours.

Those people that don't have access to micronised (Ireland and France etc) will grind the seeds up each day in a coffee grinder.

Never been a problem doing it that way.
