Posted last week about concerns about Wickham Fair and mum has just rung really worried as two pikey types have turned up at yard asking if we do riding lessons. We clearly don't and she said one was talking as the other was casing the place out, hopefully he saw the CCTV cameras but not sure what else to do. Any suggestions please.

Do you have a local Horsewatch that you could alert to give descriptions? Can you arrange to "camp" at the yard till the fair is over? We did that once when there were horse attacks locally (many years ago).

Depends on your yard's security....if you think your horses are really at risk, you could send them 'on holiday' to another yard til the risk is past.

Yes definitely get some signs and borrow a BIG dog. Had a load of thefts around our area, two guys came down our drive looking for a 'fishing pond', there isn't one for miles. I came out with an Alsatian in one hand and a Rottie in the other and politely told them that there wasn't anywhere to fish here and would they mind leaving as my dogs where not good with strangers and I was having trouble holding them. IMO it's the only thing guaranteed to give a thief second thoughts

Absolutely agree, I miss our Rottie for that (for lots of other things as well, she was a wonderful personality). She had an amazing bark.

mine too, she's a totally cutie and actually a massive wuss, if some one knocks on the door she barks and hides behind the sofa! Looks the part tho people see the brown eyebrows and run a mile

Hi everyone, thankyou for all your replies. We did everything we could to hide things, rugs, tack etc all indoors. Bought padlocks for the stable doors, only left out anyone who wouldn't load, and we were soo popular this weekend we made sure there were loads of cars in car park to give impression there were loads of people around. We have had no trouble at all so far but fair is tom so we're not quite out woodwork yet. These people had also been around some of the neighbours aswell looking for this ' riding school' .
