He has decided that to justify his wearing of Joules and other 'country townie' brands he should be able to ride a horse.

He also stated that 'being able to say, yeah I can ride a horse' is cool :O

He seems to think its going to be really easy...hahahahahahahhahahaha watch this space for an update!!

I just can't wait to see the smirk wiped off his face when he realises its not as simple as it looks. He thinks he will e flying round over jumps by end of today!! Lol he might, but not with a horse underneath him!! Tee hee

Good luck to your OH. My OH started riding lessons recently, and has now had four half hour lessons. He amazed me by doing rising trot with his arms held out on his first lesson. Give the riding school their due, the lessons are all go from the second his bum hits the saddle (need to be at the price they charge!) and his progress is astonishing. He has graduated from the lunge horse with no power steering or accelerator off the lunge, to one which needs leg to move, but with better steering. He was shocked at the pain in his muscles, but it's getting better now. I did explain to him that he needed to make sure his giblets were contained out of the way, but he didn't realise how important that was....he does now!:D

His incentive? Our very green gelding who is being schooled at great expense at the moment (an 11 yo who doesn't seem to know anything!) and who this ...er...mature and rounder-than-I-was rider of thirty years is having nightmares about! Hey ho.

Hope he gets on better than my OH did, u legged him
Up and he came off the otherside!!
Said I never told him to put his leg over, sorry but I thought that was obvious!

Aye my OH got on my 4yo the other day too :p There were some funny faces and rearranging of seat parts! I'll have him trained as my hacking partner by the time my now 2yo is old enough :D

my poor OH has been dragged on a few hacks out whilst on holiday (beginner's ones), all went well at the first couple of places when he was put on genuine quiet horses but the last place in cornwall put him on a very green cob (despite being told he was an absolute novice) and he fell off twice.. he has a new found respect for it all now ;) least he wasn't hurt thankfully.

Hope yours has fun! :)

Well there were a few swear words thrown about (mostly at my friend who was trying to film him hahaha) but overall a successful first attempt. He has got to grips with starting, stopping and turning (to a degree) and had a little go at trotting on the lunge, managing a bit of rising trot once every 7 or 8 strides...only my mediocre instruction so wasn't expecting any more than that but he had fun and said he would give it another go so can't complain!

We've realised he sits like a sack of spuds though - the man has NO core muscle whatsoever lol, helps him in that he's relaxed up there but has a natural position more suited to either the hunting field or western riding lol :D

Will try get pic up when not on phone!

hehe got a position like mine then, i say that i'm keeping my centre of gravity as low as possible ;)

I got my OH on my boy the other day. He used to show WHP until he was 13. Now, after a 9 year break, can just about manage rising trot on my exracer asking 'why wont he put his head in?' LOL :D:D

My OH rode my horse last year - it was the first time he had ever even touched a horse never mind sat on one. Because my mare has quite large paces her trot can be quite difficult to sit (or bounce!!) too -so I pushed her straight on to canter (he was on the lunge!). Naughty me didn't put his stirrups up though and his conkers were sore for days! :o

He asked last weekend if he could get back on so he did - and cantered her for a good ten minutes!! He is actually very quiet in the saddle and was careful not to lean on her mouth and at no point looked like he was about to bail out of the side door!
