Oh My God!! Tommy update with vid vibes really work!!!

Ok for those of you that have been supporting my big lad you will all know this but for anyone who has not seen these posts a recap...

Tom is an 18.3 heavyweight hunter who has chronic laminitis last week he had to be nerve blocked to get him to his stable he has been crippled in pain his feet have sunk and he has been a hairs bredth from being pts all last week..

We have done everything we can think of to try and help him and get him through this but it really has got to the stage where it has to come from him now there is nothing more we could do.

Then today he had his lie in and he has been getting some sores where he is lying down so much and his bed is deep littered I thought I would get someone to help me get him just outside his stable (with much begging and shoving) so I could give him a small wash and treat his sore bits while some one did his bed (please bere in mind this horse cannot take a step unless sedated and buted to the eyeballs and even then every step is torture for him) I got his head collar on and opened his door and he was off!! Still a very lame horse but he walked to the yard!!! on his own on a loose rope. He walked past where i wanted him to his usual tie up and there he stood for a bath no rocking just stood there.

I cannot believe it and I know he is still hugely lame and in pain but the difference is amazing... Please excuse the vid it was taken on my mobile and has been speeded up somehow when I converted it (he was not walking that quick lol) He sends huge kisses and loves to everyone on here...

Oh and he is still very much on box rest this really was a one off due to his sores needing cleaned he is safely packed away again....

Oh poor boy, he's still very pottery, but it sounds like he might be turning the corner!!!

Don't give up hope, and keep doing what you're doing, it's a long haul, but hopefully he'll get better and better. Good luck

lol We have a very large mounting block and a long suffering bf who does leg ups in the ring. He is my absolute baby and he so desrves to make it..

Glad he is on the mend - my mare had to be nerve blocked last year when she had her lami attack to get her in her stable - spent 3/4 weeks lying down and snoozing - is now out of the woods and back to 'normal'. It is a really stressful/worrying time.

poppy (highland) is prone to lami grazing muzzle etc to control it....... i cant imagine how i would feel if she was as bad as tht poor love. u must of been so worried

Fantastic news well done I know how much emotional blood sweat and tears you have been putting into this.

By the way try using Green clay for the sores....worked wonders on my boys full side pressure sores.

One off or not, moving him off his deep litter was a very risky thing to do

At his size and weight, he's the worst possible type to get laminitis. What triggered it, do you know? It's crucial he stays in his box, bedded up - sores or no. Bath him in there.

I have my fingers crossed for him.

We don't know what caused it really... he arrived with us about 4 weeks before the attack so could be the changes in grass or feed etc. but more and more the vets are thinking it is related to hyperthyroidism.

He blood results came back with normalish blood glucose and insulin levels we are still waiting for the thyroid results..

I know but there really was no safe way to get that bed changed and it was making my eyes water with the amonia. To give you and idea he is in a normal size corner box and he takes a 7'6'' rug so rather than spinning him in there to get round him which would have given him more tearing in his feet vet reccomended to take him out onto the mats and in a straight line. Just outside his stable was thick rubber matting which is where the silly sod was supposed to stay...
